Metro said:
London's showpiece Olympic stadium could be demolished when the 2012 games are over, it emerged on Thursday.

The 80,000-seat venue at Stratford may be too expensive to subsidise after the event, the London Development Authority fears.

Instead, it is looking at the possibility of demolishing the £525million stadium and, in partnership with a private developer, building a Premier League football ground in its place.
Apparently the £525 million pound stadium could be flattened after the Olympics as the running costs could be too high.

Fair enough I say. Half a billion for 2 weeks entertainment, paid for by Londoners? Sounds good to me.

There are some serious chunks of concrete and steel going down the A1 everyday at the moment, is this where it is all going?

They better not build an f-ing football stadium. I live very close by and have never wanted the games. We were promised that the stadium would not be used for football. I do not want the streets filled with the drunk, low-life scum who watch football.

Problem is that athletics venues do not lend themselves well to football matches apparently as the crowds are to far away.

They were looking at a solution where sections of the stadium stands could be slid and out to suit either a footy pitch or a running track.

So why not do the same as the Commonwealth stadium - use it for the games, and then lease it to a premiership club?

Knock it down? Let's get things in the right order; they've got to build the bloody thing first and i'd say there's no guarantee that's going to happen...

Exactly, the City of Manchester stadium works, so too did some old demolished North London venue called Wembley.

I thought the plan was to design it so that after the Games the stadium could be downsized to 25,000 seats?

We could do with a decent athletics stadium in this country but East London is not the right place for it.

I thought Leyton Orient were supposed to be having it? Didn't think they had enough fans to fill even a small street. Besides, it's actually quite hard to get drunk in or near a football ground in England, and has been for some years.

Shortsighted Morons the lot of them, what happened to all the BS about the games leaving a legacy?

Why could they not have planned this properly and used the huge Wembley stadium as the olympic one too?

nice of them, given that nearly £200m in funding came from tax/lottery money.

The fact that it hasnt been decided whether to knock down the £half billion stadium and build anew after the games... or not, is itself a good enough reason to hang, draw and quarter these planks of wevel-ridden pond slime.

Why the fk cant the powers that be put someone with some sense in charge of these matters ?

I say, if you cant be excellent, at least dont be excrement !!

CoM was always designed with the mindset that Man City would lease it from the council. They lowered the pitch after the games and put more seating in.

Which club would do the same for the olympic venue?

I vote they use it for motorcross, karting, sailing, horsejumping etc. as per the Bercy [sp?] stadium in Paris. Awesome place.
