We live on the spproach to Filton Airfield, there was a Spitfire up for 3-4hrs yesterday & a small exec jet type thing, silver/black/dayglo orange banging around for most of the day, at one point the Spitfire & the jet came over in close formation at about 500ft.

Just wondered if anyone knew what was going on?

Was it the Rolls Royce PRXIX, which is based at Filton?

Yes it was, but it was up for an awfully long time, & this other jet was banging aboutm at pretty high speed sometimes.

It flew over my house towards Wherever, North Somerset, then flew back about half an hour later.

nerd I saw this in the morning when I was out walking the hounds:

then the Spit in the afternoon, so a good day. smile

That Griffon sounds like a box of nails though.

I prefer it to a Merlin actually - especially when throttled back for landing because is woofs, pops and bangs on the overrun.

i think the other jet was a King Air, the Spitfire was the Rolls Royce plane and doing his usual acrobatics, disagree with the comment about the sound of the Griffin, they always have that gruff roarty sound unlike the Merlin, like the difference between a TVR V8 and a Ferrari V8

Sound like it might have been an-air-to air photography sortie.

Ties in nicely though. That'll be Battle of Britain class 'Tangmere'.

King airs are turboprops:

Could it have been a Sentinel from 5 Sqn, she was airborne Sunday:

Was just about to say the very same thing (but not before I'd checked my facts)

Nope, this was almost in a McLaren paint job to be honest.
