Hi guys,

Lost the AC Adaptor for my Toshiba 2410-504, so have borrowed one from work, it's a Toshiba Adaptor, and obviously the plug fits, written on the unit is Output: 15V 4A.

Done a bit of googling and it seems the replacement AC Adapters for the 2410 are 15V 5A, does this mean I am likely to burn in a firey death inferno overnight if I leave it on? The laptops been running for about 4 hours with no fuss...

Any ideas? (Electrical muppet here) wink

If it doesn't heat up excessively in 4 hours of normal computing (not standby), it should be fine.

If you try and charge the laptop from nothing AND use it at the same time, it might overheat.

Laptop power bricks usually either have cutouts or are smart enough not to work at all. I know with the dells if you plug a PA-12 supply into a laptop which needs a PA-10 (looks exactly the same but slightly larger, and will also run everything the other one will) the laptop will display a message to give it more juice when you try and POST it rather than cook the brick. The bricks will also blow a polyfuse if they get shorted out so if they get overloaded they will be safe. Just unplug them to reset the polyfuse. I can't see why Tosh would design them any different.

It will be fine. It can supply 1A MORE current than your old one, but only if the laptop draws it, which it won't.

Yep, thats what its maximum output is. The laptop will draw what it wants.

We have toshibas at work and mix the chargers no problem.

Awesome, thanks!

Toshiba laptops are epic, this one has been running after 8 years, after numerous (high!) drops and after having a pint of cranberry juice spilt all over it 4 years ago biggrin

Sounds the opposite to here! People like to test them.

Wrong way around. The adapter he borrowed is a 4 Amp one, but some research shows the correct one should possibly be a 5 Amp one.
