I am impressed by my electric toothbrush charging the way it does.
Same here, I spent ages trying to figure out how it was working!I had never had anything that worked like that before and spent ages peering at it when it first arrived!!

I just hate to think that you want to get away from it all for a weekend and settling back for the night after a slap up camp fire meal and the whole campsite lights up to the tune of Coronation street. Or worse, they fall a sleep listening to DIY lobotomy big brother.

Nicola Tesla was developing wireless electricity over 100 years ago. Unfortunately the Westinghouse power company (I think it was them) realised there would be no way of metering who was using what and sabotaged the whole thing.
Can see Intel's idea going into obscurety for the same reason...

Somehow I don't trust that. It's bad enough as it is with all energy fields around us such as radio waves and so forth that have totally unknown effects on us, but now this.
They also mention magnetic fields have no effect on us, but I've read the opposite where they can affect our moods and general health.
I'll personally keep a close eye on this but if it became commercial, I'm not sure I'd want this in my house.

You do realise that we're living on a sodding enormous magnet, don't you?I'll personally keep a close eye on this but if it became commercial, I'm not sure I'd want this in my house.

OP you and I are quite different.
My thoughts were great-this could transform transport, telecommunications and mobilize any electrical good we own- negating the need for miles of wires.
Your thought was "great-we get to watch coronation street in a tent".
Thats why I am a Director and you are, quite bizarrely a co-Director

There was a UK company, SplashPower working in this area but they ran out of money and were bought by US company Fulton Innovation: http://www.ecoupled.com/

Splash powers offer was more place your mobile 'phone on a special mat and it will charge, similar to the electric toothbrush charging method, rather than a power lights from across the room. Was / is an interesting solution to the problem of needing multiple chargers for all your portable devices but failed to license the tech to any big players.Ben

If something has an unknown effect on us, then how do you know for certain that there is any effect at all? They also mention magnetic fields have no effect on us, but I've read the opposite where they can affect our moods and general health.
