I'm just building up a small and simple web design business and looking to increase my portfolio of sites. Therefore, if anyone wants a simple website building for free please PM me. I'm looking to do another 5-10 'freebies' before going out looking for full paying customers.

The only cost to you will be the hosting/update fees which amount to a grand total of £4 per month. Full details are on my own site at www.e-magica.co.uk - baiscally I'm offering my bronze package for free (bar the hosting/update bit as explained above). From that site you can also see other sites I've aldready done.

It is early days so I really want to stick to simple fast turnaround projects - if what you want is too complex I'll say so rather than wasting your time and mine.

Mods - hopefully because I'm offering this for free to PH members it doesn't count as blatant advertising, also, I suspect it should be in the Computers & Stuff section so move it if you really need to, but hoping to get more visibility here in the P&P.

Thanks!

Don't know if its the same for others but viewing your portfolio page in firefox shows a lot of picture links missing. Not a great advert.

Also, maybe you need a bit of flash on there to really sell your services.

Also, I hate contact emails why not use a proper web form at the very least? Lots of people these days don't bother with mail clients and use web mail only.

Also, some of those sites, many they need tidying. The pics are full size but you've shrunk them so the browser loads the full pic and we see a small version. You click on the pic expecting it to open or something for a bigger version and it doesn't, it either prompts you to save the pic or does nothing. Sorry, but it all looks a bit rough around the edges to me.

Same problem with the portfolio page here too.

I would be interested though in a redesign of our website if it has editable content. Mail me through my profile.

hmmm I'd suggest having a look at your own website first. Not only is it absolutely jam packed with broken links, the text doesn't display properly either on several pages, and it's all a bit... well not working.

Don't want to sound harsh but if I were looking for a website designer first requirement would be a top notch zero error website advertising themselves!

So if I was to post on here again it would merely add to your embarrassment?

Yep, pretty much what they all said - lots of broken stuff on yours - also re the mail link on your contact page, you will be spammed to hell as you have used a basic mailto link, if you do that for clients then they too will be spammed to hell. I appreciate that you are starting out and appreciate that you are offering to do sites for free, but a free site that is bad or has broken elements is still going to be a bad advertisement for a company, probably worse than no site at all.

OK, first thing is to fix the links on your Portfolio page.

Just a few other suggestions...

I'm not sure what Serif WebPlus is but if you're going to do some web design you're charging for, I'd look at learning (X)HTML/CSS and coding by hand, or at least from a template. There are plenty of these around.

Use something like Notepad++ with syntax highlighting for editing your code and see how you get on. It's quite easy to pick up.

Lots of companies will be looking for standards compliant websites these days so read up on that as well.

Also, look at websites such as Smashing Magazine and bittbox for design inspiration, and read blogs like 456bereastreet and meyerweb.

our firewall shows portscan from your site under portfolio

scanned ports before auto lock out where ports - 52981, 52982, 52983, 52984, 52985 and 52986

apart from the obvious code not working proper, anyone with a decent firewall wont be able to see your site, need to sort that out dude!
