Fake watch advice
Discussion
-MODS PLEASE DON'T MOVE TO WATCH FORUM-
Am going to hong kong in about a month, and wondered whether I should get a pretty replica watch.
Now I have to say up front I don't agree with spending £1000's on a watch which is no more accurate than a £2.50 plastic one, and feel very little reason to do so. So this isn't a genuine watch thread or even a replica versus original watch thread. Hopefully this thread won't turn into a MR2/ferrari thread
I awlays fancied the look of breitling watches and wondered watch watches people thought were just simply good looking for a guy.
I must also say that I havn't worn a watch for the last twenty years of my life so it'll have to be damned pretty to make it past the first month when I get back

WTF???It's the same OP.
Didn't like the answers you got last time?
Buy a good fake, the best you can find. It may even come with authentic looking box and papers.
Hopefully on your return a nice customs official will charge you the VAT on you Rolllex or let you watch him pop it with a hammer when you say its a fake.
ffs, buy a proper watch, or buy a Seiko. Buying a fake watch is nothing more than funding a criminal organisation.

Abso-bloody-lutely .... and let that be the end of this ....Hopefully on your return a nice customs official will charge you the VAT on you Rolllex or let you watch him pop it with a hammer when you say its a fake.

A little better than fakes are the Alphas.
Homages, to be kind, to many designs.
But at least not badged up as fakes.
Have quite a following as fun watches.

Amazon have lots of cheap ( up to 70% off) watches.
I've had a Seiko for 25 years and it's still going strong, hasn't needed a service yet....so would also recommend them. Think it cost £125 when new.
My daily watch is a Titanium Citizen, had for 18 years, cost £160 when new, it had to go for a £65 service last year, and one of the pins broke a couple of months ago, but was easily fixed from the original spares that came with it.
A reasonable quality, everyday watch is going to last 20 odd years easily so a £100 watch equates to spending approx £5 a year. A cheap fake is just a cheap fake.

and you think paying thousands for the 'real thing' isn't criminal? All you're paying for is a highly marketed brand name funding the luxurious lifestyles of a raft of managers, directors and the owners - exactly the same as expensive clothing brands.Silver993tt said:

But fakes are bad money, poorly spent
Oh for f*** sake. The original thread was posted on pie and piston. It was a simple request to see if anyones suggestion caught my eye before I went.
Despite the fact I said in my original thread I'm not into expensive watches and just wanted this for the fun of it. (fun not being trying to impress anyone), some over zealous mod transfered it over to the watches forum where it got the predictable flaming that a 'Hi I want to buy a fake watch' on a genuine enthusiasts watch forum would get.
I emailed the mods, but the mod that did it didn't reply and neither did any of the rest. I decided to stop bothering them and post a new thread back here where it should have been in the first plcae for a light hearted attempt to see what was pretty in the watch world, nothing more.
I would never ever under any circumstances spend more than £50 on a watch. I have nothing against people that do, I just don't. Far more likely to spend £50 in the petrol tank of one of my cars.
The only real world watches we have in the family is an old fashioned breitling navigator from, I think the sixties and an accurist chronograph from about 1990. Neither would I be likely to wear.

i alwasy buy fake watches from hong kong. best place is the mong kok area during the daily evening markets.
going rate is about £20 quid if you haggle.
They do look identical to the originals although must admit they do not keep perfect time. usually lose a minute a week.
best bet is to go find a stall holder who will take you down a side alley to a room where you can see eveything together. much better than just browsing through the catalogues of fakes.

MY mum brought me a knock off rolex back from china last year, it looked great, worked fine and even had that fancy perpetual oyster mechanism...which broke after about a year, haha.
Moral of the story is, they are crap, don't even bother.
I bought a fake Rolex in Bangkok a good few years back, fully expecting it to disintegrate in a few weeks. It lasted two years, survived swimming several times, kept perfect time, but then the strap broke, so I wore it in my pocket for another year. It finally died when I put it through the washing machine accidentally, and the glass fell off. Moral of the story is, they are crap, don't even bother.

Total cost: £3
Sorry if I took any business away from Rolex, or swindled anybody, broke any international copyright laws etc.

Hang on. You want to buy a watch that's pretending to be an expensive original, but not to impress anyone? So why buy anything pretending to be something more impressive than it is? However if you're going to tell everyone it's a fake... Errr? My head just assploded.Despite the fact I said in my original thread I'm not into expensive watches and just wanted this for the fun of it. Your logic is completely screwed.
Buy an homage for £25 and save us all the crappy justification.

There's loads of really nice watches available for less than £100.
