May sound like a daft question - but in about the past week or so my Sky+ box has started playing up.

Sometimes if I record 2 programmes then 1 will fail - for no obvious reason.

Other times when just recording 1 channel - it won't allow me to change to another channel - it just throws up the bog standard "There's a technical problem with this channel". As soon as I stop recording - then you can change channels and all are fine - so there is no 'technical problem with this channel'

It's like I've lost the + part of Sky+

I've checked the signal test and both lines have strong signals.

It's just started in the past few days - for no obvious reason. It's a newish Sky+ box (about a year old or so), and was a replacement for the previous SKy+ box which had lasted since day 1 of Sky+ (4-odd years ago?).

ry doing a forced upgrade. turn off. hold back up button, turn power on at wall and release back up when the lights on front light up. takes 45 secs for lights to light. has worked for me in the past.

Sounds like the box is on it's way out. It should be able to deal with 2 channels at once, so it can record 2, or watch 1 and record another. Well, I'm pretty sure that's how mine works. Although when my first one went wrong, it just started doing all sorts of weird things.

Mine did this yesterday.

Just unplugged the box for 2 min, and all fine since then.

I suspect one of your coax inputs is dodgy allowing it to only record/watch one channel at a time.

This has happened to mine on a few occasions because our box gets pulled about a bit. Tidy up/tighten up the inputs and all will work well again.

Your Sky box has developed taste. It realises that trying to record Greatest Breast Wobbles To The Riffs of AC/DC on Men & Motors is no good for your eyesite and is trying to help accordingly.

Sorry to sound like a Professor of the Bleeding Obvious, but have you tried phoning Sky tech support?

A couple of times when my Sky+ box has played up, they've been superb doing telephone diagnostics, talking me through the menus etc...

Of course you could always just post on an internet car based forum and hope for the best...

I did. You bothered to comment on my edit? What's the problem with editing? Some sort of crime against posting?

Why bother commenting on a comment about a comment about an edit on an internet forum about cars?

Excuse me for being Professor of the Bleeding Obvious, obviously.

Are you two in some sort of league contest? Because it's neck and neck at the moment...

At least we don't have a chip on our shoulders and harbour a grudge against another PHer.

Anyway - suffice to say I won't entertain any further responses from you - so feel free to post away - as I'll be happy to ignore them.

I think we qualified for the Champions League, whereas you will be facing Darlington in League 2 for the foreseeable future, my angry little friend.
