at 37 he wont have the legs to win a tour again, the determination, yes, the experience, yes. I think he is awesome but comin back is a mistake!

I am not so sure he came second in the Recent Mountain bike championship.

There are not any really big name competition tour de France competitors at the moment , With some of the big players serving doping bans.

For Lance to win he needs a very good team & Manager of class riders to give him total support !

It puzzles me why this is so newsworthy. Who really gives a rats arse is some bloke who is getting on wants to ride like buggery up some mountains with a bunch of other blokes in Lycra on stupidly expensive bikes.

this would be the same Lance Armstrong that had his previous samples re-tested for the new drugs, after he retired, and they failed ?

the said same bloke ""who is getting on "" had a 10% chance of surviving back in 96 after being diagnosed with Testicular cancer , with secondaries in his lungs and brain,
came back after evasive Chenotherapy to win the Tour de France a year later and then subsequently did the same 6 consecutive times !!
(probably the hardest physical endurance race there is !!)

the most drug tested athelete in History ...

If you have ever tried to race up Mount Ventoux ......standing on the pedals changing down , then blowing your opponents into the weeds takes a rare breed of athelete indeed..

given Lances history & commitment , its very big news indeed

Got any links?

I expect he will be in the French Mountains do exhaustive riding to get those legs back in shape, thats if they need it.

try the bbc news site, it was a huge story a few months back. The french took it upon themselves to re-test his samples with the new tests, and they came back positive. Lance threatened all sorts but it all seemed to have been swept under the carpet.

+1

The greatest athlete in history. Gets cancer of the testicles, brain and lungs, given last rites, survives surgery and comes back to win the hardest race in the world six times.

I'm sure he's nothing compared to you though, TadKa.

For the same reason it would be newsworthy if Michael Schumacher wanted to drive like buggery around in circles with a bunch of other blokes in pyjamas in stupidly expensive cars. And thats before you take into account that Lance is a cancer survivor too. Its incredibly newsworthy.

ETA: I wish Lance well, he really is an inspiration.

Yes, the French hate him for beating their own guys on home soil. Don't forget they also changed the rules for Le Mans so that only French cars could win...

to be fair Bjarne Riis only won the tour because Jan Ulrich and the rest of the Telekom team dragged him round the entire circuit of France. With the right team of youngster wanting to make a name for themselves and willing to help out the old man in a bid to impress the team managers, i can quite easily see Armstrong winning the tour next year.

Good on him, not sure I could be arsed to do all that excersise if I had his bank balance!
Regarding his alleged positive test, this link seems to present a reasonably balanced review, to me it all smells of some dodgy / bitter French 'investigation', although I have always had some doubts I think we can safely say he'll be clean as a whistle this time round?
