The Vice Chancellor of Cambridge has told government ministers that to force state school admissions will harm standards.
Thank god for that. Let Oxbridge carry on being a pair of world class institutions that allow people entry on merit rather than some wretched government directive.

This government knows nothing of standards anyway, which is why every school leaver has 10 A**** GCSEs and can't spell.
Similarly, the Cambridge Pre-U has been developed since it's impossible to screen applicants effectively if everyone has eleventeen A levels. Following Staffordshire (I think) Chief Constable's vow to ignore policing targets, it's refreshing to see another sector driving things their own way.
