wind turbine fairly close....
Discussion
Got a letter through the door yesterday regarding a proposal to put up a wind turbine on an industrial estate going up near where I live.
Now I'm not against these things but Ive heard theyre not something you'd want within a certain distance from your home.
The whole ideal is that it makes this "enviro 21 innovation park" is that it supplies its own power.
Nice idea but what are the costs to the local area?
I have been told - though not clear how true - that you'll hear, possibly even feel the turbine running within a certain area. This was said to be 2 miles and Im definately within this area.
I dont want to sound like a NIMBY but tbh, these things should'nt be put in areas of housing and right next door is a wildlife reserve, so not sure what their angle is on this.
Plus with the recent downturn in house prices I'd rather not have yet another thing to possibly decrease its value without any real benefit to the area.

Most people like the idea of them but not in their back yard as the yanks say. Usual story I'm afraid. Object through the council if you feel strongly enough. I lived near 14 of them and never heard or felt anything even in the strongest of winds (N. Ireland so the wind doesn't get much stronger). Ideally placed out at sea but I still think they are a good idea.
The amount of co2 it costs to make is more than what it saves. Once the turbine needs servicing it has to be taken down and then biult back up again. Now tell me which is more cost effective and cleaner. It also cost more to run the winds farms that than a nuclear power station which produces co2 free aswell.
Its like these idiots from greenpeace, they should learn the world is getting bigger we need gm crops to feed people, we can't realy on a natural harvest. Also you can now damage a coal power station in the name of climate change and not been put in jail.
how to kill a country have greenpeace in it.
We have been recording the weather for the last really 100-150 years. The earth has been around 4.5 billion. Now tell me how we can say that the earth shouldn't be warming up.

Apparently and Ive nicked this from a website so dont take the flak/credit

- DEFRA recently commissioned research by Casella Stanger into the hazards of 'infrasound' - frequencies of 20 cycles per second or less (well below the lowest note on a piano). It identifies infrasound as a source of stress-related illness, and cites wind turbines amongst the common hazards. As yet, Environmental Health Officers are ill equipped to measure levels and effects of infrasound pollution.
- Sweden and The Netherlands have scrapped Government subsidies for wind power. Norway studied the Danish experience and decided not to provide any. Germany has realised that wind power is a 'bottomless pit' for subsidies.
- Property prices in an area targeted for a windfarm would fall by between 10% and 50%, according to proximity and impact. FPD Savills (a nationally recognised estate agency) have estimated a fall of around 30%.

was working maybe a mile from one of these day, never heard it so not sure on it, it does ruin the landscape though, big massive stupid lookin dog crap pile of stupid that costs loads...its stupidNow I'm not against these things but Ive heard theyre not something you'd want within a certain distance from your home.

I have been close top these things - The Boyndie Sprint Circuit is righht beside a s
t load of them. I couldn't hear them, I couldn't feel any differential air pressure from them - I did find them strangely hypnotic though
L am not a lentil eating greenie - though I do like lentil soup, particularlt with ham in it - but I do nopt see ant reason not to pursue alternative means of producing electricity, nuclear seems to be the best option but rather than have all eggs in one basket why not use wind and wave energy where appropriate.

I do some contract work at a Michelin tyre factory which has had 2 of these wind turbines on site for the past 18 months or so. The office I use is literally a stones throw from both of them. As far as noise goes, I can't hear them either inside the office or outside, no matter what speed they are rotating at. Only issue I have is light flicker when the sun is behind one of the turbines and a brief shadow passes the window and can be distracting. They are bloody big tho!!

I've got a dozen of them no more than a mile from my house.
I honestly can't see what the fuss is about. Can't hear them unless i'm literally underneath them, and i don't think they are an eyesore.
Compared to a nucleur/coal power station I think they are quite attractive. I honestly can't see what the fuss is about. Can't hear them unless i'm literally underneath them, and i don't think they are an eyesore.
