According to Sky News FIFA is investigating claims that Croatia fans racially abused Emile Heskey by doing 'monkey hoots'.

These monkey hoots - Heskey is not a monkey. He does not hoot. So what is that all about? If they did lion roars, or snake hisses, would that be racist too?

Anything that is intended to be malicious like this, can be interpreted as racist.

Bunch of football supporters chanting Monkey to a black player has racist overtones - Monkey can be construed as an insult to a black man/woman - having been on the receiving end of such an insult and general actions/mannerisms, I certainly took it as such.

Off course it's racist.

Mind you, one man playing for his country, and earning a fortune v. a bunch of guys jumping up and down and making monkey noises - know who'd I'd rather be. Pratts.

It's down to context, and in that context it is certainly unpleasant and racist.

It's about as racist as you can get. You might be considered (by many) a tiny bit racist or perhaps just VERY stupid, for not knowing that.

Snake hisses and Lion Roars ? That would be fine.

A bit of all three I'd say, mostly the latter.

Are you jealous of his talent ? I wish I could play football like him.

Although According to unconfirmed sources who may have met his social worker from when he was a child thought him a 'right little tt'

Being a master of the bushes, I suspect it'd be more appropriate to direct the 'monkey hoots' to yourself.tongue out

The football lot seem to have claimed 'monkey hoots' as racist, lending greater power and probably some measure of warped satisfaction to the hooters. Why don't they ignore them?

Always good to have a spirited debate! It was either that or ponder the uninteresting mysteries of someones fat flatmate.

This is probably the single most stupid question I have seen on PH, and there have been some crazy ones over the years. If I called you a Dip st, would you be offended, go figure...
