Did a search and the general concensus seems to be that antenatal classes are a waste of everyones time, but, my wife has heard good things about the NCT offering and we're wondering if they're worth the bother, and the cost....135 quid!!!!

I don't mind the cost if they actually give you some very usefull info but then woman have been poping em out for billions of years in caves and stuff with reasonable sucess?? What you think?

Went to one with my wife when she was cooking one up. Quite honestly, it was ste & we never went back. Just a load of broody parents to be cooing over how great it will be spending the next 2 years up to their armpits in baby st.

Completely pointless imo

NCT are very good so I have been told, though it may depend on your local area.

I went along as Mrs TB(I) thought it would be a good idea. Don't remember a thing.

We went for our first - it was extremely helpful. Made some great friends we still have today (6 years later).

At least give it a shot.

So that's 2 +Ve and 2+Ve so far. Keep it up chaps....bear in mind our decision to go will be based purely on the outcome of this thread.

We went.

I seemed to be the prospective dad picked on by the woman running the course to be the one to demonstrate everything, and to be the one who was made to look stupid every time there was an opportunity to.

I didn't mind - that's my usual place in the scheme of things.

The classes contained masses of information and ensured that I was fully aware of everything that was going on when our little'un came along (and serious health complications ensued for Mrs Bluebus).

It was definitely worth it for us, if for no other reason that it meant I had the confidence to ask "why?" and "what does that mean?" when the consultant and midwives told us what was going to happen during the confusion and complications surrounding the birth.

We also went on the one afternoon NHS course at the local hospital. If that had een all the information I'd been aware of when the moment came, I would have been terrified!

Didn't like the classes that much - do like the friends and support we still have two years after the kids were born. In fact we're having a birthday bash next week for the little blighters.

I guess it depends on the group you get - we got a good one.
