hehe

I'm meant to be going to Houston for a two week course next month. I stayed in the Hilton on Southwest Highway for 7 weeks straight just over a year ago.

There is not much to do. It is not a tourist destination. There is NASA to visit, which is cool. There is the Toyota Centre where I have seen Basketball and Ice Hockey, both were fun.

I saw Snow Patrol at the o2 Arena.

We hired a truk and one weekend went to Galveston and on another we went down to Corpus Christie, both places are very nice. Doesn't look like Galveston is in any state to recieve guests, but could be worth visiting just to take a look at the damage.

Houston is a big urban sprawl. I think it represents all that is wrong with America. Gross inefficiency, greed, etc.

You HAVE GOT TO visit the Galleria mall in the middle of town. It is amazing. If you have time go to Katy Mills mall which is out I10 I think, serious bargains be be had out there and a lap of the mall is a mile!

I would recommend The Venue on Main Street for clubbing. Wild West is an awesome club as well.

You will need to have a car. Taxis are pretty rubbish and you don't walk anywhere.

Best strip clubs are Colorados and Legends IMO.

Quite. Houston is far from glamorous. The weather will be awful I think.

I am fortunate enough to be one of about 2% of the population of Houston to have power - the result of living on the same block as the Police HQ and the Hospital I think. No running water though - it might be like this for several days. Should be OK by November though!

The Space Center is worth a visit (once). Galveston is fine but I wouldn't bother this year, it is a real mess just now. The Galleria is great for shopping. I wouldn't bother with Katy Mills - it is the Chav mall of Houston, IMO. There are lots of good restaurants, bars and clubs around. From a PH point of view, you could go and peruse some yank metal at the numerous enormous car dealers, or hire a Corvette or something? I would recommend spending a few days over in the Hill Country - San Antonio/Austin and beyond. Just a few hours drive away and much prettier than around here. Check out the Texans American Football team - even if you don't like the sport, it is well worth going to a game for the spectacle. There are two games in November I think. If you like Golf, Houston has lots of courses. The climate in November is quite pleasant. One of my favourite places at that time of the year is Brazos Bend state park about 45 mins SW of town - a nice walk around the lakes, stepping over alligators asleep on the paths... Houston Zoo is pretty cool too, if you like that sort of thing. There are alot of very good museums - Natural Science, Fine Arts in particular, lots of theatre and concerts too - worth checking Ticketmaster for. It is the 4th largest city in America after all...

Kemah is okay. Also the space center. Galveston should be worth a look too.
