Last month, work messed up, paid me my basic wage but forgot to include my comission. So they gave me a cheque.

I thought, i'll pay this straight onto my credit card, so i went down to the local branch, whilst waiting in line a guy came up to me and asked if i was paying in, i said yes, he said to use the new fangled machine as it was quicker. Fine.

Went to said machine, with him watching over, went through all the bits and bobs, paid it in and got a recipt.

this was on the 26th of August, so 1st of september, check my cc balance, nothing, phone HSBC, told to wait another day, did so still nothing.

Speak to accounts at work, the payment has been taken from their account, so armed with this i call HSBC and ask what the hell is going on, to be told its obviously gone missing and they will look into it, but it'll take 14'days.

meanwhile they phone me morning noon and night to get payment for my credit card which has now gone £5 over the limit because of this feck up.

So now i have to wait 14days for them to confirm they have fked up, when its already there in black and white and i have photo proof of the cheque i paid in as the machine scanned it...

HSBC are the biggest bunch of tards out there, i cant remember how many times they have fked something up.

Rant over

no Lloyds, considering i paid it in on the 26th and it was taken from their account on the 28th i would have thought even if it was from a bank on the other side of the world it'd clear by now!?

The three day clearence seems to be in order then. There is a faster payments which has been intoduced by all the major banks , but I dont this includes cheques, just electronic payments.

Seems like it is a missing payment if the balance isnt still on your account today. The bank should adjust the account when sorted to ensure you are not liable for any interest etc. Email me if wish to complain further and will be able to get you a name.

Cheers

There is only one think more galling than being fked over by the bank and that is hearing English people use horrible Americanisms. 'Retards' or even more spine-shiveringly cringeworthy- 'tards is one example of this.

My pocket money leaves the joint account (Abbey) on the 28th of each month. It always takes 5 days minimum to reach my account (LloydsTSB). furious

I can only assume that the banking system in the UK has some REALLY slow computers if it takes five days to send a payment- after all, it's not as if they send a junior out from the Abbey branch the 50 feet over the road to the LloydsTSB branch with the cash and have to wait for a dry day, is it?

Or maybe they shut all the computers off outside of office hours? After all, you couldn't go overdrawn on a weekend if they were, could you?nuts

I am not sure why, but they are massively inconsistent. Some people report them to be brilliant. First Direct get some very good reports! But others, myself included, have a dossier as to their failings and abysmal customer service. If it were one thing then it would be fine, but it seems that a catalogue of failures lead to me leaving....

But others are fine.... very odd. Maybe they didn't like me?

Who was the cheque payable to ?
Normally when you're paying a credit card bill, the cheque needs to be payable to the bank (or card holding institution) rather than yourself.

5 days to clear a cheque is nothing. I recently set-up, by phone, with LloydsTSB bank a direct debit to pay my LloydsTSB VISA card monthly bill. "That will take 14-28 days", I am told. "So what did you do with the details I have just given you?", I ask. "Typed then into the computer", is the answer. "So isn't the DD now sent up then", I respond. "No",I am told, "that takes 14-28 days". "So what else is required to be done to activate the DD", I ask. "It just takes 14-28 days", is the answer. My comment that ink, quill, paper and a pigeon would be faster didn't seem to be appreciated.
