Legal issue regarding an invoice......
Discussion
I'm helping my other half with a bit of a problem regarding an invoice she's just received.
Basically long story, short; She had to pick up her diploma from her university, however they are withholding it until she pays some outstanding fees.
After asking what this was, we were told they are late fees from August 2005 and she was not notified of them until now.
Although we are not disputing the late fees, we are disputing the fact that we have only just been informed of them....3 years later! My other half received no letters informing her of this fee at the time and I believe the university have confirmed this fact.
So my question is if this invoice is legally valid since it was produced 3 years late?
If the university has done nothing legally wrong, then we will pay the fees (even though they are extortionately high), however if they are in the wrong, there is no chance we are paying.

Sounds like you're trying to get out of paying ?Although we are not disputing the late fees
How much do you want the certificate ?
Just pay, if the fine is valid, and get on with life.
I like to work within the law. If they are breaking the law by providing an invoice that is no longer valid, then that's tough luck on them. They should have better admin staff sorting these things out.

I hate it when people won't face up to what they've done, pay up and move on.

If you have nothing constructive to say, try another thread.

The inland revenue did, nothing I can do, and I was in the wrong by being late for a deadline they'd clearly given me, so I paid my fine.
I get your point that you clearly do not want to be helpful.Thank you for your input and now if you would please move over and let others that perhaps might be more useful to join the conversation; that would be grand....ta...

Just pay it and have done with it.
They can pursue for six years.
Hmmmm.....it just seems crazy they can spring this on you after 3 years without any notice. They can pursue for six years.
If you are right about the six year limit, then I guess she has no choice...

End of story!
