Metallica will be performing tonight on Later with Jools Holland at 10pm on BBC2.

Saw them last night at the O2 and they were awesome.

I was going to see them, but my mates didn't buy a ticket for me, the bds. It was an epic gig I hear. I had my friend ring me up for half the gig and I just listened down the phone.

Can't wait til November on the Death Magnetic tour, gonna be wicked.

In my opinion, all respect for them has gone down the toilet when the "pioneers" of thrash/general metal appeared one Saturday morning on SMTV Live playing that awful St. Anger (my excuse for watching it in the first place was I was hungover and couldn't be bothered to change the channel - honest), but even some of the biggest metalheads I know still like them. Does anyone agree?

I lost interest in Metallica after the Black album.
Apparently the new album is very good and back to their <imo> best since Master of Puppets.

New record very good. Easily the best thing they've done since the late '80's.

Metallica are so good because they do what they want, and not what the consumer wants.
So not every album rocks the foundations of your house, but then again how many bands from that era are still around with the presence Metallica have !?

Also for anyone who watched that BBC 2 show on the band i think James made no apologies for making music they want to make, not just competing with heavy thrash music from the 80's...

which is why its a shame they have pandered to demand and basically tried to make an album like like the 80's stuff.

Agreed... i think having explored different things and gotten different needs out of their system has kept them going and still enthusiastic about the music

I'll have to have a listen to the new album. Sounds good!

Is Lars Ulrich still the most annoying man in metal?

Did they really do what they wanted though? Was it coincidence that the sound of Metallica changed when Bob Rock produced their albums? I remember them being very against how Bob wanted them to sound for the black album. Now he's left, they seem to have gone back to the sound of their earlier stuff again with Death Magnetic, which I personally think is great.

New album is awesome but " the day that never ends" drags on. St. Anger was terrible I thought, but an important part of their past.

As for Lars, I think he used to be the most hated man after the napster game, but he seems better now, came out pretty annoying on Some Kind Of Monster

More will be recorded and shown on the Friday night version of the show as it usually features at least 2 songs by the main artists.

Regarding the new album I have been listening to it since Friday (the release day) and it is very good, particularly like Unforgiven 3 and also The Day That Never Comes ....... which sounds like it should be the title of a James Bond film.......perhaps it will be?

The special gig last night at the O2 Arena was excellent even after having to queue for an hour to get the tickets as some moron at Ticketmaster / O2 managed to sell me a ticket using my Maestro card but forgot to tell the people that program the O2 card readers so all the fans like me that had bought through switch / maestro had to queue up whereas those who paid via credit card could just go straight in banghead

Thought they sounded great.

Ace that there's still a lot of interest in the classic metal bands!

What a tnuc I am.

When I read 'Later' and 'Jools Holland', I merely assumed it would be showing after Newsnight, as was the traditional JH slot.

So I've been listening to the Liberal Wnakocrat Tossvention going on in the background, waiting for something more wholesome in the form of a bit of Metallica, before I finally realised that, no, this wasn't the trail end of Newsnight covering the Lentilfest, it was actually a dedicated broadcast, and I'd missed the metal by a country mile.

P!ssflaps.

The new album is epic IMO.
I also think that St Anger was epic (along with all of their other albums!) and that comparing their latest stuff to their ealiest stuff is not really a fair comparison because they have changed so much sinse the early days.
