Is it possible to drive for more than two hours on Sicily?
Try www.tripadvisor.com - put in Sicily, click 'Hotels' and they'll be ranked by feedback

I'm looking at doing something similar too, did you get cheap Ryanair flights from BHX?
Hell yes!!! booked last night bumps the price up if u want to take luggage but for £109 for 2 people inc taxes its awsome, car hire circa £140, just need somewhere to sleep now, i would have said camp/sleep in car but mrs has had two very very wet weeks of camoing with me this year and i think i would prefer a s/c appartment/flat as less hastle, well until i started to search for these things as budget is about £180 for accom but can be flexible by £50, but non that i look at seem to have parking andd this is a must!! im going on the 19th Oct for 1 week.Matt

Probably a couple of hours per lap!
What the hell are you driving to average 280mph?
Is it really 560 miles around the coast then? The island doesn't seem anywhere near that large.

We have booked with Ryanair to Sicily flying from Stanstead.£16 debit card fee!!!

After much searching, small print confirms £4 per person per flight.
Barstwewards.
well im now awaiting some information about a few places to stay, wil post them up on here incase any of you lot are also intrested. Ive heard there are some good driving roads, but allegedly the police are quite strict over there and big fines if caught, anyone any idea on this (not that i will be able to go that fast as mrs 'doesnt like go fast or my stupid ideas of how a car should be driven'

We stayed in Taormina. Twice!

It was a lovely town, loads to see. Good day trips to Etna and Syracuse but I have a feeling it's on the opposite side of island to where you're flying to.

Cool, I've booked flights and will sort a hire car out this afternoon then it's just hotels to arrange. I'm planning on hiring something cheap so I doubt speeding of any sort will really be on the agenda!

We have just booked flights to Sicily, but have no idea where to stay, i dont want to be driving for more than 2hours from the airport (Trapani) and were not looking to spend a fortune, so anyone got any ideas, or any help on what to do when we get there?
Thanks in advance.

Hotel de Nordes in Castellemare di Golfo. Probably the best beach in the North West. Thanks in advance.
Matt
Hotel del Palmes in Marsala, which is close to Birgi airfield than Trapani.
Villa Favourita opposite is an old winery and much better.
I wouldn't really bother with Trapani.
No hotels worth staying in in Erice, but has to be visited.
Not sure about Agrigento.
Bear in mind that you are going to the real part of Sicily and it is totally different from Catania/Toamina in the East. Way, way different.
www.thinksicily.com is a good site.

Air Malta fly from Gatwick to Catania from £130 return (incl all taxes) or £25 one way. They're a good airline, none of the Ryan Air hidden charges. You can check in online and choose seats etc. They have one of the newest fleets of Airbuses in Europe.
