This is just so funny. Here is the New Statesman article: http://www.newstatesman.com/uk-politics/2008/09/la...

John Prescott is heading this up and he just had an excruciating interview on the Brown Broadcasting Corporation R4 Toady programme. It was a brilliant advert for not voting labour.

Everything they say and everything they do = good reasons for not voting Labour.

I heard that. He was on the verge of hysteria. It was as embarrassing to listen to as Kinnock's "all right!".

The corpse is simply twitching.

It's all over, thank goodness. We only have to wait.

Just the same - we have to be sure. So remember to go out and vote everyone!

Perfect.

BTW, latest IPSOS/MORI has CON 52%, LAB 24% and LIB 12%. Blimey. Would give a majority of 336 with Darling, Straw and Smith losing their seats, according to electionn predictor.

Someone appears to have included an image of Davey Cameron in 25 years time in the front row... will he defect to the dark side?

Do you mean Campbell? Surely everyone recognises the fat, loudmouthed, punchy sthead on the left?

I very much doubt a majority of 336. There are only 646 seats in total. So they would have to win all the seats and 13 that don't exist.

Although the way Labour are performing it could just be possible.

That's not quite right as they'd have to gain some from labour, so the net difference in each case would be 2. Figures as above (it's based on those who will definitely vote) are Con 493, Lab 121 and Lib 8.

That is a majority of 170 not 336

Nope. It's a majority of 336. 650 total seats. 650-157 = 493. 493-157 = 336

Can see your point but this refers to majority as majority over other parties, not majority as in no of seats above 50% of the house. It's very rare for any party to poll over 50% so by that measure nobody would ever get a majority. I think this is how it's calculated.

Its unheard of for any party to have more than 50% of the popular vote but normal to have a an overall majority (more than 50%) of seats. Without an overall majority it is difficult to govern.

Yes and no.

Yes, as an absolute majority. No, as a simple majority (336)

Yes and Yes! The Government majority in the house is calculated by the amount above half the seats. It isn't open to debate that is how it is calculated. If you don't believe me go and check. Of course be sure to come back and tell me how correct I am. wink

Do you think Plaid Cymru or Scottish Nationals are going to vote with a Conservative Government?
