After posting this thread;
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I did alot of thinking & the conclusion is that I've decided to leave my current job. I spoke with one of my managers about it & he's urging me to start looking as in his words, "If i was in your position, I'd leave now, you've got no ties! You can work anywhere & earn alot more than you can here".

The amazing thing is him & my other boss (soon to take over as MD later in the year) are both on approximately £1400 pcm...I couldn't quite believe it. Purely because the amount they both do far outweighs what they get paid.

So back to the point. I'm tempted to go down the same route I am at the mo. Find a small local firm where I can get stuck in as I have here for similar money if not a little bit more. Found one which was almost ideal sounding.

Job AD said:
Salary: £20-25K
Description: Dealing with high volumes of inbound sales calls, order processing, building a rapport with clients, seeing the sale through from initial contact to dispatch of goods.

Knowledge of the aviation industry and products a real advantage, car owner & driver essential.
"Great" I thought, sounds similar to what I'm doing at the moment (heading up the sales side of things @ the firm). But it then dawned on me...I'm free to do any job really, it doesn't have to be similar to what I've just done.

What other jobs/professions are out there bearing in mind my requirements are permanent employment, something which I can totally immerse myself into as I have done in my current role. My ideal scenario is to find a company I can spend many years with. I saw myself staying @ my current firm for a decade at the least if wages rose as I expected they would. I want to be able to say that I love my job & not have to think about the money side of things as intensely as I do at the moment. I'd rather just keep working my socks off & know that my wages will rise on seeing my work/effort/production. I guess this is pointing to a Sales Career really but is there anything else around that I should maybe look into?

& before anyone says anything...

1. Yes I will buy an MX5 eventually
2. I've already grown my "pair"
3. I dont own an Urraco

Don't get caught up with the money they earn. That is for tax purposes.

You are still young at 21, enjoy yourself for a year or two then get stuck into something.

I just noticed the adver for the job. Any job that says car owner essential stay away from. It is a mickey mouse outfit otherwise they would provide a compnay car. I wouldn't mind betting that the 20-25k also has the letters OTE behind it.

Do you have any qualifications?
What you have may limit your options - however I would say it's easier to get a job doing similar to your current occupation.

Is it that simple though - I am one of my company's lowest paid employees despite being the Chairman. You pay NI on earned income, much more tax efficient to take it out in other ways if you can.

Really? What makes you say that? I just figured as it's a small firm they wouldn't have the facility run something like that. I am a bit clueless on how or whether it's possible for a small biz to run such a scheme without it looking like they're throwing money away on cars?

You have a point...I think there is a little bit more to it. Having said, I still think that the chances of a much more increased for me or anyone else are nil. It;s interesting because having spoke with someone who recently left, he was raising a young family on or around that figure also. Same with the person I replaced. Seems to be a common theme with people being unhappy here about what they're being paid despite everyone loving the work they do & the company itself.

Oh indeed. Qualifications wise, it's nothing spectacular. I went through as far as completing college education wise. I then hit a crossroads, uni or work. I voted work purely because the industry I wanted to get into (Graphic Design) @ the time NEEDED people with experience so thought, "Ok, get some experience together, make yourself employable then go from there". I then ended up falling into this job...Been there since. A career in IT no longer really appeals to me.

My aim when I joined my current firm was to start @ the bottom & work my way up the company in the coming years...Absolutley no issue in doing that. I believe I can turn my hand to most things & seeing the huge variations in tasks I've had to handle in my current position I wouldn't mind finding a similar role purely because of the variety involved. The randomity of it all tied in with being @ a national & very busy exhibition stand one day, unloading a 40ft container full of customers orders the next & the day after sealing a number of orders & sending out quotations for quite large sums = Brilliantly diverse!

It'll be to fulfill the latter part of "...seeing the sale through from initial contact to dispatch of goods".
