Listening to the Radio this morning ahead of the Labour conference, I was struck by how resurgent the Socialist agenda seems to be.

Broon, supported by a media who have fallen for the deflection of blame and spin from the Gov, looks set to lurch to the left.

The successful are going to be taxed more, the city will be given a kicking and , what's more, he's got perhaps 2 years in which to do it.

The unions are showing masturbatory delight at the prospect. It could happen.

Is the voting population stupid enough to fall for this. Some worrying signs in the media suggests that they may be..

I freely admit to despising Socialism but I'm willing to hear a counter argument.

So , a Socialist Britain : what do you think?

I think that, as with all things, the "socialists" who advocate taxing everyone else to death are keen to ensure they don't pay too much...

The Govt are lurching between disasters, staring defeat in the face.

When under pressure, people generally go with what they know, returning to their core belief system.

To Gordy, the prospect of massive strikes probably seems worse than continuing deterioration of the public finances, particularly when the latter can be viewed as a "spreadsheet problem", and the US are busily adding another few digits to their deficits with debt nationalisation.

On the upside, it's the darkest hour before the dawn. I don't think the public is yet ready for the structural adjustments required to sort out the economy. Maybe a bit more pain is required.

My only fear is that the Tories are still to scared of doing and saying what they really feel, and are really just offering "Labour-lite".

If you remember your history - it gets like this just before Labour get booted out for a generation. Callaghan tried to hold things in check but it was union folly and the Winter of Discontent that sealed Labour's fate. We then had five consecutive terms of the Tories.

It's what is happening now IMO.

They know they are fked. The SNP are about to take over Scotland. England is going Tory and even some of Wales may well go Tory.

The end result? Labour out for a generation.

Even more interesting is that with the SNP in charge of Scotland and a referendum on the dissolution of the Union on the cards there is a strong possibility that the Parliamentary Labour party in Westminster as we know it could be brought to its knees: a minority party.

Happy days.

I turned off the Today programme (again) today in total disgust.

It was supposed to be a piece about how utterly fked Labour are.

Instead it turned into a piece of slavish praise for Baby Millipede rather than scruntising the facts:

that Brown's own policies have unemployment leaping by one of its highest monthly amounts last month.

The economy is rapidly going down the stter.

The Glenthones election poll is predicted a 5,000 vote majority for the SNP.

Rumours circulating Westminster that four Labour MPs are resigning their Cabinet responsibilities albeit in middling government jobs.

The whole piece had one, that's one delegate (who sounded like a village was missing its idiot) saying he should go.

But those Labour idiots in Manchester are fighting the good fight, the chippy 'them and us' class warriors; the only voters they have left. God help us all, the die-hard Socialists.

Seeing Marr on the BBC interview the , that was finally enough for me, the BBC are clearly trying to shore up support.

As for the 'nursery school for two years old', great idea when it happens in 2018, I kid you not. Again, the only people that's going to sway are 18-25 year olds who might have two year old by 2018.

To top it all, you have a Chancellor saying the economic fight should be treated in the same way as a the war on terror yikes

And we have another 18 months of this lot.

God help us all.

Grasping at straws for something to focus a fight on, they've screwed up terrorism and Iraq etc, and no one believes or is willing to pay for Climate Change/MMGW...

Labour are breaking up internally....

A move to the left will not be taken lightly by the Blairites...

Frankly anything that is favoured by the unions will be hated by the Blairites...

Milliband is being lined up by the press as Brown's successor... a bit revolting piece on him in the Times on Saturday...

Really it is too late, for Brown, too late for Labour...

Oh for heaven's sake, it's the Labour Party conference, all the drivel you heard is for the comrade’s consumption. Most of the speakers are standing with their fingers crossed behind their backs. There is as much chance of them carrying any of it out, as there is me becoming PM. There's an election to lose coming up and Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. The Labour MPs in parliament know that the few, who will last, past the election, won't be those supporting slap the rich plans, by voting in parliament, even if they sing the red flag in Manchester. I'm not even sure they do that anymore. Its years since I covered a conference.

The danger is that - living as we do in a 'global village' - the moneymakers and wealthy are free to choose to take their wealth (and subsequently, their taxes) elsewhere. There are less barriers between living here and living abroad now, and if Labour return to a hard left socialist position, those who are the most hated (successful capitalists) will up sticks and leave. The irony is that it is these people that predominantly drive the top end of the economy, providing funds for the bottom-feeding, estate-dwelling, inter-breeding chav scum.

Thing is, I can't figure out whether we're in for another '80s or another '90s.

If you liken Brown to Callaghan, then his ruination of the economy, mismanagement of taxations and the unions and so on should lead people to want to vote Cameron as a 'new' Thatcher, and make a stand for traditional values, free market economics (although I think a prudent move for any party would be to introduce regulations to attempt to separate building societies from banks again) and low taxation.

However, you could liken Brown to Major, a leader presiding over both economic collapse and a divided party, in which case Cameron could be positioning himself as a 'new' Blair, and make a stand for a youth vote, British culture and economic success (and then proceed to squander it.

For people of my generation, who felt utterly let down by Blair after all he promised and the British cultural resurgence of the mid-'90s that was ruined by post-'97 political association, I hope Cameron learns from both these leaders, and attempts to be neither.

The concern is that Cameron may look at the 'success' (read 'popularity') of Blair and attempt to emulate him.

Unite alone provides 40% of Labour party funding since private donations collapsed, the party is almost bankrupt. In effect we now have Government by the Unions.

This is worrying. As we know from USA Money can buy you votes, you get your face on TV enough and you can buy people. People like her giving him a mill this long before an election is worrying! other rick idiots may follow and give Labour enough coin to win again.

Gentlemen, things are to get really nasty.
I believe this as well. They have two years. They know they are on their way out. Not they will do the things they have always wanted to do - but did not because they wanted to extend their term in government. Now this is no longer possible (probably) they might as well do what the hell they like.

Could be very bad indeed.
