I just went through the assessment for a 1 year working visa, considering they're meant to be desperate for qualified professionals.... I FAILED!

They don't want me because I haven't booked a return flight! I don't know when I want to fly home yet!

Has anyone else had a years visa?

Maybe I should just apply for a skilled worker visa irked

If you just failed on the return flight, why dont you just book the return flight, for a date way ahead, then change it once youre out there it might cost you a few $ but at least you will get out there.

I back-tabbed and added that I have a flight but it must have remembered and still failed.

I guess I'll have to do that, book a flight a bit nearer the time frown

Still annoying frown

Yeah, it'll only cost about 50 quid to change the flight date.

Skilled migration worker visa can be a huge amount of work - mine took 2.5 years to go through all the process (although I wasn't pushing that hard), but I have got permanent residence now bounce

Just got to convince my wife to go now....

I remember that from years ago.

Had to buy an open ticket (at great expense to the company I worked for) with a notional return date. My secretary would then call the airline periodically and move my return date back...until I eventually needed it.

Black yourself up, and claim asylum. You'll get a few weeks in tropical Nauru, or even Christmas Island if your really lucky.

Didn't even have a flight booked at that point.

I take it you're applying through immi.gov.au?
Have you checked to see if there are any other visas you qualify for?

I did this "assessment"
https://assessments.visabureau.com/australia/asses...

I'll try the place you mentioned, but I would qualify for a skilled migrant visa too I think that would be a bit more long winded to get, I might want to come home after 4 months on the road!

I do want to check out all these single Aussie men they've been talking about on the news though biggrin

There are loads of people who illegally overstay their visa and you have just triggered one warning factor by not having a return ticket and being vague on when you are leaving, so now you have a black mark against your name and they will be looking at you very closely in future applications because of your oversight. If you are an Australian trying to work in Britain you will find exactly the same thing applies for the same reasons, I still get interrogated by British immigration everytime I re-enter the country. There's not really an excuse for not knowing this as it's very well known and probably mentioned amongst the various terms and conditions for application. Ironically most people who do plan to stay illegally would know this and be much better prepared to fool immigration officers than you hehe.

It shouldn't be that much more to get a return ticket, I found a return trip going the other way was only a little more than a one way ticket.
