Captain Darling was interviewed by the BBC this morning. He repeatedly said how Labour have reduced the amount of debt that the country was in.

Considering that under their tenure we have gone from:

Treasury chap meeting GB for first time in 1997 said:
The surplus is even bigger than we thought!!
to repeated fiddlings of the golden rule due to borrowings exceeding 40% of GDP, I think he may be fibbing. Have I missed something? Was the interviewer a clot for not pointing out the scale of the whoppers being spun? How to they get away with it? And why the hell are they not being given the interview equivalent of VBRJ every time they appear on screen? Watching Gordon being interviewed by Andrew Marr was laughable. Ian Hislop on Question Time last week was the first example I've seen of proper hypertensive anger. Lets have more.

I also saw this.

It got me off to a bad start to the day.

A simple question that required an even simpler yes or no. FFS answer the question you muppet.

By fiddling to you mean the £1025 billion public sector pensions bill or the $160 billion PFI bill?

I love paying tax.

It wasn't so much that he's not included these, we're aware of the off balance sheet part being huge, it was the assertion that black is white and that overall debt has gone down, when the reality is that even when you don't include the invisible parts, it's enormous and rising rapidly.

Yes, the economy was pretty healthy when they took over in 1997. Of course, it's gone the way the economy usually goes under Labour... down the pan.
