Depends what you want from a night out.

Personally I'd avoid Whitley Bay and stick to Newcastle, Jesmond or the Quayside or a combination of the 2.

Whitley Bay? That's like flying to New York and going out in New Jersey...

Stick with Newcastle and whatever you do, don't wear a jacket.

+1, Stay away from Whitley Bay for a night out.

Jesmond, Quayside, or Central Station areas (latter being my preference) are the places to be.

It's gotta be the Tuxedo Princess, mind you it's a bit posh (has it sunk yet?)

Seriously though, start in Jesmond, then get the metro into town and head for the Quayside.

If you want a fight, take the Mini down Big Market.

Jesmond: students, metrosexuals. The posh bit, or what passes for posh round here anyway.
Newcastle: meatheads and slappers (Bigg Market), indie/rock kids (Central station)
Quayside: still a bit chavvy but probably outnumbered by people who have mastered the art of breathing through their noses. Ought to have a look really for the bridges etc.
Ouseburn: indie/arty/feckless students
Whitley Bay: for the love of God NO!

For a considered and unbiased appraisal of individual drinking establishments refer to www.theburglarsdog.co.uk

Here is my rant from another thread a few weeks ago.

pbirkett said:
Whats so bad about the Quayside? All depends what you want really, but its lively enough. If you dont like lively nightspots then you probably dont like anywhere in Newcastle?

ME:
If that is directed at me, it's a very odd comment about not liking anywhere in Newcastle as you don’t know me and have made that opinion on the fact I think the Quayside is sh*t.

The quayside has progressively gone down hill over the last few years.

It attracts the same clientele that the Bigg Market attracts and I have not drank there in a good 10 years, and it is also over run with sh*ty Hen and Stag do’s who wear sh*t outfits thinking it’s the first time people have seen anything like it. F**k me if I had a quid for every time I’ve seen some lasses on hen do’s wearing t-shirts with some stupid saying like Cum on my flaps Claire or Brenda blowjob or Stag do’s with lads in dresses or dressed as Borat, I would never have to work again.

Yeah maybe I’m, getting old (34) and have a jaded view, however a couple of months ago, I was walking down towards Mal at about 3pm on a Saturday afternoon with Mrs GMan to meet some friends before we went to Jesmond on the drink. I had the misfortune of having to see about 40 odd of these said c**ts mentioned above drinking outside Chase and the Slug shouting at anyone that went past, we just both thought what a shame that the Quayside has come to this.

A few years ago it was one of the best places to drink in Newcastle with none of this b*****ks. In my opinion there are only a few places down there I would even bother with now. I’d rather be pi55sed up in Popolos, Secco, Living Room, Barluga, Tup Tup and World Headquarters then most places down there. Saying that though these bars get there fair share of to55ers too, but not as many as down there.

PS I do drink in some sh*t holes in Newcastle too, but my excuse is it’s usually on a match day.

PPS, I have not mentioned The Pitcher here, I think it's sh*t on the weekend, but during the week or on a Friday afternoon while playing the wag from work I like to get drunk in there.

I'm from Newcastle too! I'd avoid Whitley if you can. Tynemouth is alright though, and only a mile away!

Start in Jesmond, ask for Osbourne Road. Then get a taxi to the Central Station, try the Telegraph / The Forth etc.

The (burglars) dog is a good laugh / read, but if you took all he says seriously, you'd be sober!

P.S. the "boat" has now left the Tyne, so you are safe there!

That'll be some taxi ride, it's in Greece smile

I can't say much about Newcastle since I was there the weekend before last and the mind bleach has worked its magic. I can't, though, forget having some naked geordie bint's lady garden thrust in my face IN A PUB on the Bigg Market at 6PM. It wasn't as erotic as it might've been. Oh, and Sea was st.

For those on an emergency recce this weekend, it was down the hill from the Toon Takeaway, about 3 pubs down. I mean I thought strippers at the Vaults at lunchtime was pushing it a bit, but we walked into this gaff and I nearly had an out of body experience.

Since you're a lady I believe the law is wear your skimpiest gear and then forget to fasten half of it so it falls off before you go out.

That's pretty spot on about the Quayside these days actually - as exemplified by the briefly-hip Chase which now looks like a branch of Netto. But it's still worth a look for the architecture and a decent pint in the Crown Posada.

You will find now the only ones doing the laughing are the aholes wearing Ben Sherman shirts or Henry Lloyd jumpers and Rockport shoes who drink on the Bigg Market.

They devserve to be laughed at!!!

I definitely agree with the comments about the Quayside. Was a pretty cool place many years ago, but last time I went it was a dump. Far too many stag dos (though i was on a stag do myself).

Id give Jesmond a go in the day, and early evening, then only really venture to Bigg Market/Quayside once you are well and truly drunk enough not to notice how bad it is.

IMHO the Quayside is spread out and there are too many offices and not enough bars, so its overrated. Also there are so many bars in the centre of Newcastle now that the business is spread out.

Personally I think Whitley would be, shall we say, a more intense experience though you would need to keep your wits about you, and have some kind of crash handy. I'm not sure what you expect to find in Tynemouth other than old dears walking their dogs.

Incidentally, I don't think the OP was asking your advice, rather inviting you to the do. Only in Geordie Land, amazing place.

Stay around the Central Station and you'll be alright, unless your are a charver then go to the Bigg Market.

Try the Vineyard for an interesting cocktail. Go into Centurion for a Baby Guiness.

And don't wear a coat.
