Living in a block of flats in Germany, all of our rads (only three) have these things on them. The numbers on the display seem to cycle though three or four modes every few seconds. Seen it in someone else's place too (not in our block). Some kind of temperature monitoring system? Anyone know?

It is recording how much heat you use. It will be read once per year, and will form your heating bill.

I think they are a data logger that logs your energy useage.

That answers that then, thanks!

Could have Googled but it's more fun to ask the PH massive as you never know what will come out of an easy question like this wink

Could you not keep them in little cooled pockets?

I'm sure it has been thought through by minds far greater then mine (your average 8yr old!).

How many rads do you have?

You'd probably expend more energy cooling them than you'd cheat the power company out of tbh.

Is it quite an old block of flats? Maybe the heating is centrally generated and was originally recovered on a straight share through the rent/service charge by the landlord but the energy supplier now wants to recover it from each domicile more accurately?

Interesting - as it takes into account efficiency not just the amount of energy used.

Anyway, take the bugger off and put it in the fridge - maybe it'll go backwards biggrin

Stick a freezer pack on each one and helpfully reduce your energy use
