....you knew of a situation whereby a baby and a young child were left in a house, at night, with no adults, for a few hours? The incident was probably a 'one off', but we really don't know for sure?

Not the police or anyone official IMO... Need to find out why the parents felt it was OK and then help them to understand it's not acceptable in case anything happens.

Maddy McCann Springs to mind.

How old is the young child?
There was a post about this recently, iirc suprisingly there is no legal age limit on when a child can be left alone, only guidelines.
I would certainly have words with the parents though, it's a fking stupid thing to do.

OMG! Really? that happened?

The irresponsibility of some people is beyond me, I would never leave my daughter unattended like that..dont these people know what could happen.

If it was me, I would make them aware that you know the children were left alone, and that if it happens again you will report them to the appropriate officials, make it clear that you are not being a 'meddler' but looking out for the safety of their children! Maybe mention the 3 year old girl who was snatched from the bath..whilst her Mother was in the next room..and sexually abused!

If that can happen who knows what could go on when they are alone!

Sorry for the rant, but this sort of thing really upsets and worries me!

If you know it happened and you know it not a one off the you have to report it.

Are the parents responsible adults?

If you have any doubts then Social Service should be informed, where young children are concerned I would rather be a busy body and wrong than ignore it.

I have quite a bit of experience and if you have more details you dont want to share on here PM me.

I disagree strongly with getting the state involved in any way shape or form at this stage. They invariably make a bad situation worse.

I presume then that the parents are people you can talk to? The state doesn't always screw this stuff up but there are usually better ways to deal with things.
