yes, and they are a fking nightmare to get rid of!

If you do get them just get the pro's in, any home treatment is worthless, I tried a whole load of stuff and new furniture and it didnt work.

Professionals had it done in one visit.

They guy that came around said pretty much the same as that article, they are on the increase in the UK big time, he wasnt quite so coy about the ethnicity of these "migrant workers" though!

They do. I was bitten by them in Peru.

Only suffered from them twice in 8 months of using hostels - once in Phoenix, where they ate my toes, and once in Aguas Calientes in Peru, where they noshed on the inside of my leg when I had a nap on top of the bedclothes.

They take ages to heal properly - I've still got vague marks from the Peruvian ones and that was about early August.

In both cases the bed frames were wooden - they like to hide out in the cellulose apparently.

At home we use those special covers than totally encase the mattress. They are washable and despite the bloody nuisance of taking them off and putting them back on again, we do it about once a month (normal bedding every week).

We also have taken up all the carpets in the bedrooms. At one point my son was getting colds and allergies every 2nd week so we took drastic action to remove any possible cause. It might be overkill but it's so easy to clean now and none of us suffer with any such symptoms.

I have stayed in a number of UK Hotels with work over the years and never felt as though I'd been bitten although I did unpack into a Hotel room last year to find it infested with rust beetles. Not pretty to look at even though they are harmless to people.

I stayed only long enough to find alternative accommodation (I drove 120 miles home) yet one crawled out of my laptop's CD drawer the following morning. Eeeeuuuurrrgh.

Been on business in southern europe for a few days, and visited an establishment that rents rooms for relaxation by the hour.

Woke up the next day, and my ws itching like crazy, has big welts, and despite a load of antisitimines seems to be getting angrier rather than calming down.

Question is should I visit them next time I'm there and ask for a freebie as compensation. wink

Oh yes I've had them. I moved 3 times and threw out 2 beds. That shifted them....

Also the use of a lot of chemicals from "pest control direct" killed them off in the end.

Oddly they are fussy eaters, they bit my missus loads, I dont ever recall having a bite when we had an infestation!

Its also a fun game to stay up late and squish the little fkers when they crawl out at night.
