A huge amount of fraud appears to have been perpetrated by the Metropolitan Police....who the hell thought it would be a good idea to give them Amex cards?

More than 1,400 Met Amex cards were withdrawn after about £2million of expenses was unaccounted for. Much of the money was spent on legitimate expenses but some officers allegedly used the cards to pay for holidays and Rolex watches.

Yes, of course, the Mail made it up...no policeman was jailed.

Most companies check where the money goes...
And some people still try to cheat the system.

The stupidity is breathtaking...what do they think audits are for?

Yes...
But most organisations are not the bastion of society, are they?
Mind you, that is probably a pretty good example to set with our present society.
As you were...

Years ago, the Met used to dish out stickers saying 'Mets are Magic'.

In the miners strike most had 'because they make things disappear' added in pencil.

I was watching one of those Cops on Camera type shows on Sky One and they were following two coppers who dealt with drugs crime in dodgy areas. They pulled these two Asians over and searched them, one had a wallet that was absolutely stuffed with notes. Was like a brick. As the copper showed the camera I glimpsed a rather nice SS Daytona on his wrist. Did make me wonder had the cameras not been there would the Asian guy have ever seen his wallet again.

Real? I digress.

This Met/Amex story broke a couple of years ago didn't it? Private Eye perhaps?

Well, I did wonder if it was fake. Then looked at his line of work, the people he was interacting with and the huge wad of drug dealers cash he had in his hand and thought possibly not.

If you're in that line of work, there's got to be huge temptation.

Bit of a sweeping assumption there don't you think?

It's not me that can't account for £2million of expenses...

Most companies check where the money goes...
most companies make people actually pay the bill on the corporate card and claim back the expenses.

not really, its a temptation, he didn't say they would all take it, albeit he did infer that it may have happened. i would be tempted, perhaps its good then that i am not a copper.
