Don't buy the drop-flat ones, they're useless.

Only go with the ones that disappear into their own tube in the ground. When you set them in, make sure you don't surround the very bottom with concrete, leave some soak-away material around the base. Otherwise, the base fills with water, which soaks you when you drop (because nobody lowers them) the post into the socket.

There are a number of different designs on the market, I'd go with one that uses a separate padlock, because yoofies fill the locks on the built-in ones with superglue, which means you have a hell of a job re-fitting a new lock.

Drop flat ones get hit on the floor which elongates the pivot hole so they waggle about.

Do you mean these things MrMaggit?

If so, I've seen these used around our business park - and they are the dog's danglies - and have proved effective to at least one business as an anti-ram raid measure.

Yes, they're exactly the ones. Very substantial bit of kit, but not too heavy for the little gurlies. wink

We have ATG ones. They're excellent. ATG barriers stopped those loonies driving into Glasgow airport with a car bomb a few years ago.

I got one of these last year:

http://www.barriersdirect.co.uk/categories/1_parki...

It sinks into the ground, and locks into place - very easy to use. I can also confirm that it works as I'd forgotten that I'd put it up one day and reversed into it with my old S2000 (having owned it for a week). It stops you pretty quick wink

Telescopic ones cost thousdands to fit though. Big holes need to be dug and tarmac relayed.

Fold flat ones are much cheaper to fit but obviously add much less protection. Not good enough for ram raid protection but good enough to secure the parking space (note - not used for securing the car, just the empty space!)

Is the OP trying to protect the empty parking space or the item parked in the space? Different solutions for different needs.

Don't bother with the drop-flat ones, they really aren't worth bothering with, and can be pushed over by a car quite easily, even easier with a van. Honestly, don't even consider them.

Unless you really want to buy one, then replace it in two weeks with what you should have bought in the first place.

As a Customer of mine found out, despite being told what would happen.
