Anyone started using the retina scanners at the airports yet? Saw them for the first time the other day, thousands of people queueing at passport control and no queue at all at the retina scanner. Guy goes through and gets scanned and on his way in seconds, I was impresed at the speed of it and that it worked at all really.

Does anyone know if their valid for international travel as well as domestic flights?

Are you talking about Iris? It's only for international travellers.

You need to travel, and use it once every 6 months to keep it active. Yes, it's excellent at jumping the queues (when it's working, the one in T1 is always broken mad)

Not used it in the UK, but Privium in the Netherlands is great.

I use it everytime I go through Heathrow. the database behind it seems to be a bit steam powered, as it takes far longer than it should to open the doors after it has confirmed who you are. Apart from that, it's great.

My main beef was that as a business traveller who takes the first flight of the day, I wasn't able to register for the scheme until I was delayed one morning. The office doesn't open until 09:30.

Have used it since it was first implemented a couple of years ago- works very wel (the majority of the time- except for T1 which always used to break) - new T5 one seems reliable.
Very fast if there is a whopping line for passport control, and once you have used it a few times, you know exactly how to move your head to line up in literally a few seconds.

Top tip: carry/wheel your hand luggage BEHIND you when you enter the booth. If its in front of you it will break the sensor low down, and you will have to get down on your knees or bend right down as it will think you are short and give you thelowest camera - seen that happen in front of me a few times rofl
