Had to pick a car up from Bromley in Kent the other day,I cannot belive the amount of speed cameras and huge speed humps every 100yds or so ,I was catching the front spoiler on most of them and didnt get out of second gear the whole time,I though essex was bad enough it was ridiculous to the point of discomford and damage to my car you really do need a 4x4 ! the very thing they want of the road definately not porsche or ferrari friendy!
IMO it is Governments vision for the whole country, owning a car is to be derided taxed to the limit, and made to be as unpleasureable as possible, what is the reasoning for enlarging the white chevrons restricting traffic flow loosing a lane at juntions and entrances onto roundabouts, and for an example installing log jam type affairs on (near where I live) two blind bends actually now an accident spot always broken bits of car everywhere,I think they should be looking forward and making traffic flow smoother not making life more difficult for the already irate motorist.moandriving

Whereabouts in Bromley?

On the whole there aren't that many are there? Worst road I can think of is Nightingale Lane - it's a rat run that runs parallel to the main road in from the East of Bromley and has a school on it. Even so they are vicious and I won't take the Saab down there.

There's worse places I think!

Bromley isn't too bad at all - as mentioned , Nightingale Lane is crap but OK if taken at low speed in a normal car - and Murray Avenue is a bit of a pain in a GT3 - but very few anywhere else, even where it wouldn't be a bad idea. Compared to parts of Lewisham, Bromley is a driver's paradise:-)

Sounds like I picked the worst route you are probably right as the driver did say it was a short cut, still too many though IMO and not just on one road I suppose when you are a local you can just avoid these roads, however we did take a few turnings off on the way and they did seem to be on most of the roads,my worst was on the crest of a hill after not seeing one for a while got up to at least 30mph and launched over one not even marked!
Good test for the old scuttle shake if you have a cab probably break your windscreen!

Get something old and French, like a 2CV or a Peugeot with a number ending in 04 or less. Then charge over them all day at whatever speed you like happily not feeling a thing biggrin

Well, the layman has the idea 'oh, the faster you go the smoother they get' but they obviously have NO mechanical sympathy, not even when their car fails the MOT on broken springs and shot dampers.

the whole area is bad - like some tentacle of london has snaked out and infected the place with stupid 'traffic calming' measures.

There are often alternate routes to the problem areas but you guys are right; the real crappy areas are nightingale lane area, murray ave area and various areas nearer to grove park where the road surface is like beiruit (sp) yet there are pristeen speed humps all over the shop.

My seven was too low for the humps - a big problem.

Ive since moved to the south coast and love it. no speed humps on any real roads and the whole attitude to motoring is completely different. real breath of fresh air.

also - watch for police with lasers on the a21 who park in the turn in to bromley college and also laser vans in teh short dualled stretch just outside biggin hill - on the run to the roundabout to go into the biggin industrial estate. really makes my st itch - in both cases the roads are perfectly safe yet give a perfect area for the pulling over of cars :s

They are going crazy in Nottingham with speed bumps. They are popping up everywhere, highly annoying especially when you have to crawl over them to avoid taking your exhaust off. Would much rather have cameras than speed bumps littered all over the place.

I drove through East Grinstead today and the bloody things are everywhere. As a result I will NEVER set foot in the place to spend my hard earned. One day the muppets who think these things are a good idea may see the error of their ways.....

Thanks all for the replies..supprising how many people sort of defend the things or at least say "they arent that bad"
One question I have also when they dig out a junction and build the road up level with the kerbs what is the road user to do ,give way to pedestrians or just negotiate them slowly,as where they are installed around our area pedestrians just step out onto them as though they are crossings?confused

Nightingale road is awful, the only other parts that compare near bromley are lovibonds avenue near darrik wood and that road that goes past the cricket ground in chislehurst, awful bumps that go all the way over the road that are twice the height they should be and those smaller tables that half of them are ok and others shocking, always a guessing game. I have also notcied the new bumps heading up towards grove park station when coming past the junction near the chinbrook estate, coming from mottingham.

Just round the corner, Tylney Road tried to remove my front spoiler, I won't drive down there again. Big brick built things not a gentle tarmac hump.

Actually they are not too bad, its the brick buit table tops at junctions that are the PITA on parts of Crofton Lane.
