Just glancing back over the last few weeks and noticed that it was G Brown which prevented Barclays from taking over Lehman Brothers on that fatefull weekend.

Its the same GBrown who (as Branson said today) stopped & told him not to take over Northern Rock.

Now IF Branson & Barclays had been allowed to take them over - what would have happened? Im confident it wouldnt have been as bad as it is now. Confidence wouldnt be as low.

Not a bad thing, the guy is quite simply a moron.
TBH, I think that is offensive to morons.

"quite simple" is fairly accurate though.

I wish someone would re-release "Gordon is a moron."

Was having dinner with one of the bods high up at Barclays last night. They have been blocked from doing a considerable number of deals even very recently.

Wouldn't it be nice if the banks(who after all cam under a pretty sustained attack from Labour last week) took out adverts in all the major papers outlining the deals they wanted to do, and how allowing those deals to go through would have put the market in a position to weather the current storm, and then place the failure of those deals fairly at the door of no's 10 & 11 Downing street

Apart from Lloyds of course, who's board is, I suspect, still partying hard.

It does seem to smell a bit, well, Brown that Gordos mates are being allowed to deal and his no mates aren't. Oh, wait a minute, they're socialists.

I only wish I was that well connected hehe

Not quite but high enough up the food chain to have been involved in the decisions over the company shopping trips in the last few weeks.

Same chap was smiling from ear to ear last year just after Barclays had announced their exposure on the sub-prime. He said they'd got all their secrets out in the open on that front now and knew they were in a good position. At the time he mentioned to me that there was a feeling that there were some of the big boys who might be needing a little eXrta help.

You really have to ask why?
Why did G Brown stop Branson from Buying Northern Rock? Was it purely loss of some staff??

Why did G Brown stop Barclays from buying Leyman Brothers & why didnt G Bush tell G Brown to p&ss off and let the markets play it out?

One other question with the WW2 lwon from the USA why didnt we pay it off sooner than last year? Why didnt we use some of the Good days tax income boom to clear it off early?

Why did G Brown set up those Golden rules and then move the goal post as soon as he realised he couldnt do it....
Give £140billion to the NHS which mostly went on new/additional staffing, then cut back on NHS/freeze the budget for them... result as they manage their own sites staff cuts.

"I put it to you that the right honourable Gentleman is an unclef***ingc**t"

Maybe they are being forced to keep their powder dry for problems closer to home

Just read a CNN report after the Citi group announcement. It basically says now all the big boys are done they are uncertain as to who is next.

Citi are fine, JP Morgan Fine Bank of America Fine and everyone else has either weathered the storm or been taken over/nationalised.

Wonder if Gordo's wonderfull next move will be to 'force' the other banks to buy NR and B&B off him?

That's pretty yank-o-centric. I wonder what the European banks are dealing with.
