Equities have all the logic of a coach load of excited school girls. That's why I avoid them like the plague.

Ban on shorting means it can't fall aggressively, the fall from yesterday was just termination of longs.
Market awaiting next directional news, having a breather.

Investors that were long (bought ftse) decided that the FTSE isn't going ot be going up anytime soon (due to US bailout failure) so sold to close out positions.

As you've said, a systematic dumping of long positions can cause the FTSE to fall, without the "shorters" there.

I agree with the market having a breather.....and I'm itching to go long.

stop loses then ? I expect it was more to do with how thin the market is at the minute, can't get anything done. Stop loses obviously pushed it, but no one is buying the market plumets.... we had a lot of '' YOURS AT BEST'' coming from our equity desk

Fancy that. The market falls despite shorting being banned. Who'd have thunk it.
