First let me say that this is terrible for the children.
Ok done. Good.
Right, why are so many childless couples who are skint, deciding to have kids when they can plainly not afford it? just tie a knot in it / shove a cork in it & wait until you can afford it. Child poverty reduced at a stroke!

I think some comes from a change in circumstances, the extreme end being the sudden death of either or both parents.

I saw that on the news - some fat family with a washing machine claiming that they were in poverty.

FFS, if you have electric and a washing machine, you are not in poverty!!!

Indeed, on BBC this morning was a couple with their young son in Birmingham (the most at risk area) bemoaning the lack of benefits and how they are below the breadline. While sitting on their DFS sofa, with big TV, stereo and lots of other nice things around them.

No reason given as to why neither of them could work...

I could hear that in the background and decided not to look as I just knew what was going to be in the shot and it would have been a bad start to the day...

Actual Child Poverty figures are based on household income nothing else.

The gubberment ups benefits to massage these figures when the real issue is the fecklessness of the parents.

Surely as long as the child is alive educated and fed the rest of it's surroundings are motivational?

+1

I flicked over as soon as I saw them and the big telly and all the other consumer electronics, and they were clearly not struggling to buy unhealthy food, which costs far more than healthy food.

Being on benefits and taking as much as you can from the state, claiming compo from anyone for anything and everything etc, and then wanting more without having to work for it, appears to be the official definition of poverty.

If they wanted to show poverty, then why didn't they go out and find a family in poverty? It shouldn't have been too difficult.

The BBC make me sick. This should be a serious news story for us to empathise with and show concern for the plight of the poor, yet they actually force cynicism about the issue by their sheer bloody lazyness in presenting it.

This makes me laugh...

They probably think a child in in poverty when it hasn't got a new i-pod, playstation, new mountain bike etc........

When I were a lad we had a stick and wheel, packet of marbles and a ride on the donkeys at Blackpool once a year, if we were lucky.......

I know - this made me really, really angry - to the point of shouting at the television while in the gym, which upset people. But they were f*cking commies, so who cares...

...anyway, yes. These lazy soda were sat there complaining about having no money in a perfectly comfortable (if proletarian in taste) flat. No mention of GETTING A fkING JOB THOUGH.

Jesus, all I want is an assault rifle, a month, and a free pardon.

its all a load of cock, of course you will be caught short when you spend all your benefits on ciggys, booze and DFS....

This is the problem with our benefits system - the attitude seems to be "I spent all my benefits and now I have none left so obviously Im not getting enough"

I might try that later - "hey boss, I just spent all my wages and its not the end of the month, what are you going to do about it??"

We need a system that provides all the basic essentials for a reasonable quality of life. Throwing money at these fkwits obviously doesnt work.

A "credits" system should be developed - you get X amount of credits each week which can be exchanged for public transport tickets, healthy food shopping, and other essentials.

No booze, cigs, sky, DFS, "plasma innit" etc.....

Because people tell themselves that there is no 'right' time to have children so go ahead and have them anyway.

That you can plan, save, and get yourself into a stable financial situation in order to care properly for your own children and not off the back of the state seems to pass a lot of people by....

Will never happen.

Labour are deliberately creating an underclass of thick, dependent Labour voters.

Some Child Poverty Propaganda for your perusal.

Poverty shortens lives. A boy in Manchester can expect to live seven years less than a boy in Barnet. A girl in Manchester can expect to live six years less than a girl in Kensington Chelsea and Westminster.

Poor children are born too small; birth weight is on average 130 grams lower in children from social classes IV and V. Low birth weight is closely associated with infant death and chronic diseases in later life.

Poverty shapes children's development. Before reaching his or her second birthday, a child from a poorer family is already more likely to show a lower level of attainment than a child from a better-off family. By the age of six a less able child from a rich family is likely to have overtaken an able child born into a poor family.

Children aged up to 14 from unskilled families are 5 times more likely to die in an accident than children from professional families, and 15 times more likely to die in a fire at home.

Children growing up in poverty are more likely to leave school at 16 with fewer qualifications.

2% of couples and 8% of lone parents cannot afford two pairs of shoes for each child.

12% of lone parents cannot afford celebrations with presents at special occasions.

3.9 million children are living in poverty in the UK (after housing costs)

The proportion of children living in poverty grew from 1 in 10 in 1979 to 1 in 3 in 1998. Today, 30 per cent of children in Britain are living in poverty.

Since 1999, when the current Government pledged to end child poverty, 600,000 children have been lifted out of poverty.

The UK has one of the worst rates of child poverty in the industrialised world

The majority (54 per cent) of poor children live in a household where at least one adult works.

43 per cent of poor children live in a household headed by a lone parent. The majority of poor children (57 per cent) live in a household headed by a couple.

42% of children in poverty are from families with 3 or more children

And sometimes he's "hungry when he goes to bed", both of them being close to obese ffs. Try asking a kid rooting around in a rubbish dump in India for something that can be sold so he can eat about poverty you feckwit.
