A House Bought On Ebay For $1.75

This Is Not Good News

A home in Saginaw, Mich. sold for a winning bid of just $1.75 to a Chicago woman. Joanne Smith, 30, recently was the top bidder for the home during an auction on eBay. Her bid was one of eight for the home. She must pay about $850 in back taxes and yard cleanup costs.

Five Years Ago

Not too long ago that would have been a $12,000 fixer upper house. Eager young yuppies would have added a porch, an addition, and resold it for $45,000.

Look To The Future

What about GMAC bonds, or Kahn Aircraft Leasing bonds? How long before the corporate jet market implodes and Mark Cuban dumps his $300 767 million jet? Those bonds are sitting in your 401-k, and they will be worth five cents on the dollar.

That place makes a badly built Barratt shoe box look attractive.

That's not a house, it's a shack.

It's a roof over your head. To some people having that security is priceless.

Makes the places in "Boyz 'n the hood" look like the Hilton. Personally I think she overpaid.

I have a better constructed shed than that heap of junk.

It went for $1.75.

Even piss soaked stinking tramps could afford to buy it.

That is not a house. It's badly stacked firewood.
And it's not 1.75$ - it's nearly $1000 due to cleanup and back taxes. So hardly cheap for firewood...

It's still a cheap bonfire and BBQ party at a dollar. And if the neighbours want to come round with a few beers, fine.

Then dig it over and get a great crop of spuds next year. smile

I'm going to be serious for once and say:

It may be a st house, but there's people who'd be extremely greatful, for less than that.

There are urban re-gen projects going on in some cities, dump $5K in now, in 5 years, keep the house, get your $5K back.

£125 houses in Detroit are in relatively plentiful supply.

If you're looking to make an investment for your children or your grandchildren then possibly worth a punt.

It has four walls, a door, a roof and is a place to protect you from the elements. It's a house to me....regardless of you scoffing at it and declaring it 'firewood' some poor person inhabited it and called it home once....

It's still cheap and good value too, £600 for a little place like that. I've spent more on my car in the last 6 weeks and I've nothing tangible to show for it really.
