Can't find it in the SEARCH;

Did anyone see this programme the other evening. Three very brave guys from different decades talking about the sexual abuse they suffered at the age of 11 and onwards at the hands of a head teacher and a teacher at a boarding school I am loathe to name in case I get the wrong one.

The accounts of abuse were shocking enough but the reaction of the schools was incredible; cover it up, move the teacher on and let them get a job in another public school (for 21 years). And the head was never prosecuted because the guy waited until his parents were dead 35-40 years later before he complained and the CPS then said the main offender couldn't get a fair trial. The other one was prosected and got 2 years, but only because what he had done had been documented by the school in a letter to the parent. Seems the judge thought it was a one-off many years ago because nobody else would complain.

The three guys seemed to no longer bear the malice I think I would have if I had been groomed and seriosly sexually abused (so much so one guy still refuses to describe the things the offender did to him) at the age of 11 by someone entrusted with my care at boarding school.

The only good thing in my view was that the perperators were named and shown. Let's hope they can't drink G&T at the golf club anymore,float in polite society as a 'former head of XXXXXXXXX school' or get access to kids.

FFS, these schools may be a business but doesn't morality come in somewhere?

Look at the catholic church and other religious institutions .

Look at the number of cases where children have been taken into state care homes only to be abused.

Look at the abuse suffered by children the world over from all sources.

I didn’t watch the programme on principal as the trailers seemed to me to be setting it up as yet another “Oh look at those poncy toffs and their using the Lower Remove’s butt cheeks as a toast rack”. They all went to Public School so it must be a good hard bumming by the housemaster before bedtime and soggy biscuit games.

That said there was, and I suspect to a smaller extent still is today, a feeling that such things should be covered up and swept under the carpet, not for the sake of those involved but the whole gambit of things that would be affected if it all came out. That is wrong IMO, where there is rot it needs to be stopped, the problem is that so much ‘collateral damage’ is done in dealing with the sick individuals involved, as everything they were associated with is tainted by the association, that there is a natural sense (right or wrong) to try to deal with it behind closed doors.

I have had experience of this when I was at cathedral school, not personally involved, but it came out much later down the line that kids were being abused. The guy involved went on to have the most high profile position in the UK for what he taught before being caught.

This whole Catholic child abuse things is blown out of all proportion. Look, if there's 1% of priests who do it, and there's 1,000,000 priests int he world, that's only ten thousand paedophoiles.....

It was unreal when I found out in the news. The man was are real icon of his era, I had enormous respect for him and so did most of the people in the Cathedral and classical music fields.
