Probably not a discussion you were expecting but...
Is it true that if you flash traffic lights in the dark they change to green pretty much instantly or is it just that you have driven over the sensor on the road that they change?

the one's by an ambulance station in solihull by me do that. If there on red and you approach and flash they do change. Used to do it most days on my way to work for nearly 8 years!!!
Its just luck, really
I was told by an ex-Police driving instructor that there're either motion sensors or induction loops to indicate the ECU of the presence of any traffic. If I'm stuck at one for any length of time I let the car roll a bit and that usually works.
I find it really funny when people sit and flash their lights incesantly at them. SWMBO's one of them.
