More time, more patience, better understanding and financially more secure; is anyone else enjoying doing it all again for the second time?

yes - 30th November.............also less eager to please.............we've "been courting" for eleven years and still say...."I'm 40...I do this...you're fighting 40 years of me doing this...I'm not likely to change"

. . . and you'll be funding the new one when you are much older.

I think I see your point though. I work in an industry with a very high divorce rate and know loads of blokes in that situation some even on their third families.

I met a colleague the other day who was starting a new family at 56, by then his first family were all out of schooling and university so he was indeed better off then when he had his first family.

Many say the same things as you, I expect much of it is from having done it all before and thus feeling much less stressed about it.

This implies you are on number 2. Tough break.

Must say I'm viewing it with trepidation. Don't get me wrong here. I'm on marriage number one with three great kids - but 'We' are very much the exception among our circle of friends, the stats don't lie, and just because you don't wish a thing to happen, certainly doesn't mean it wont.

Over the years I have lost count of good friends who have fallen by the wayside because of second, third and even in one case where we came in in marriage #3, fourth. All good things come to an end. Someone will fk it up for you. Best of luck.

My uncle in his late 60s has just started another family. Clearly thinks he is the greatest thing being able to father a child at that age. Doesn't want anything to do with previous 5 kids. Fool

The 1st Mrs said she'd had enough after 17 years; no reason, I was a good bloke, nice..etc..blah, blah, blah. Temptation came her way and she couldn't resist it. House, cars, kids, dogs, bikes all gone in a flash. Unbelievable & never thought it would happen to me.

Anyway she has a new husband who she left me for, the kids are now in their mid 20's, and I've got myself a new life living in the far east. I have a nice shiny new wife smile and a young son born 18 months ago. And that is the best bit as I'm involved in him growing up instead of always working, fixing the car, decorating, mowing the lawn, painting the windows... The two kids back in the UK are cool with it too as I thought they might resent him.

I could never do it again in the UK though, in fact I'll never live in the UK again.

I'm looking at marrying the gf once her divorce has come through. It will be my second and her third marriage. Fortunately I didn't have any children with my first wife, so left her with a clear concience and some sanity left. My gf has two children from her second marriage so it's going to be an interesting challenge as I go from a single bloke of 5 years to a household with three women. I am quite a patient man, but this could be a difficult transition.

Reckon theres someone somewhere who is actually juggling two families without them knowing about each other?

Could say he has to work away half the week to both of them.

That would be mental, but it would keep life interesting.
