It's a very liberating thing smile

Having been in touch with contacts over the last few months, I've been offered a few full time jobs or could move into consultancy.

Going to be a hell of a day tomorrow when I submit it (in Dubai and Sunday is our Monday) but it is very cool knowing that I have the options in the bag.

Quite nervous actualy as I hate the confrontation thing but it is definately the right thing to do.

Simply the case of losing confidence and trust in the CEO (I'm a VP).

That's really going to really cheer us up back in Doomsville .. thumbup

I've felt like quitting, but it's not really an option here unless i develop a taste for daytime TV. Elaborate on losing confidence in your boss - is he undermining your achievements, or just taking the business in the weong direction?

Sorry - but I'm really surprised how chilled out I am. Poured a rather robust G&T and I am going through the meeting in my mind and covering all the bases, arguments and points.

I've also been pleasantly surprised by the reaction of various people - in a positive way.

If all you feel is relief / liberated, then you are doing the right thing. If you have any doubts, go think about it some more!

+1
I resigned from a job (while training) that in my mind was where I would be for the rest of my life. Resigning meant I had another chance, whereas staying would almost certainly ended my chances. Never regretted it, so I know I made the right decision! thumbup

To your edit: It's an interesting scenario.

He's based in California and runs a seperate business under the same name but has a different business model. He's been taking a huge whack out of the company for over 2yrs (as is his perogative as he is the majority owner) and we've come up against a normal cashflow problem - we have them twice a year due to fixed bills of the company and the attitude of clients paying up - If you've done business in the Middle East you'd understand. Please don't think I'm being patronising).

And this time I've been hung out to dry and put into a very difficult position even though I'm only a minority shareholder.

It is a long story but the crux is that I've lost all faith in him.

I love the company, it's an award winning agency in it's field, but enough is enough.

Good for you.

I keep looking for my next job but the one I have now is beter paid and more interesting than most in my sector.

In some ways I'd be sad to go but in others...woohoo

I've lost respect for many of the people I work for over the years. I've just had an appraisal in which I was critisised for what someone thought I thought while he was on holiday and this, apparently, proves that the perfectly adequate work I did is somehow wrong (which it isn't). This saved the company a fortune by the way, but, because of something I "thought" it is taken as evidence of uselessness. Pathetic. Sad really.

I'm currently at home on paternity leave and trust me mate, daytime TV is worse now than when I used to skive off school. I'd rather spend my working day scrubbing toilets than watching it.

Cheers all. Much appreciated and helps a lot.

It is not easy throwing in the towel. Now, this sounds like I'm backing out of something when I'm actualy putting my foot down - Lion for a day or lamb for a lifetime etc...

But, I'm not willing to be held accountable for his problems - and trust me, I am Mr. Accountable when it comes to my responsibilities.

I'm lucky that I have the support of a wonderful woman (who, by the way, is the brains of the outfit) and we're lucky to be finacialy sorted.

Anyway - on the positive side, had a meeting this morning that has guaranteed me a 47% increase in salary for a full time position and it could work out more for consulting.

It's about bloody time I did this anyway (soon to be 40) and really take control.

My last proper job I emailed it on a Sunday- bosses were blackberry addicts so knew would be more calm and collected when I discussed it and gave signed version.

Well done and good luck sir.

I'm considering throwing in the towel this weekend; have been offered a few opportunities after being approached by a headhunter this week after a particularly stressful few weeks and now feel so liberated at the possibilities ahead of me.

Hope it works out for you smile

Middle East? Clients not paying? How very dare you....eek

How about the ones who only pay you half, but offer you further work of higher value, and tell you that you'll get no more work if you pursue full payment?

Or the contracts that only pay out in full on a signed "completion certificate"? Ever tried to get one of those signed and agreed?

For all these, and many other slippery tricks learned the hard way, contact me...

ETA:
Oh, and somebody else on another thread asking if now is a good time to buy in Dubai.... Doh!

I did the same in June this year for similar reasons, best thing I ever did, big boss was taking out far too much money and one of the other directors wanted his dividends before the staff were paid, yikes he didn't like it when I said he had to wait! Since I have left the staff have had to take 2 paycuts in 3 months whilst the big boss is still taking the same amount. It won't be long before the company is bust!

Hope it works out for you OP

Although VP in an American company is similar to 'dept head' in a UK company, right? Assistant VP of making the tea? biggrin

This feels the same.

Best out of it. I've given my heart and soul and still got screwed over.

Never stop learning, eh!?

Cheeky fk - I ran the whole Middle East Office and had a flowery American title.

In the real world I would have been called the Managing Director, Middle East or General Manager at least.

Anyway - titles are for poofs. I'm extremely happy that I'm moving on and it's all on my terms.
