I am fed up with doing nothing on rainy day, and looked at my small shabby shed that fell apart... so i decided to do something about it.

I want a larage shed or garage to just to fit a average small car in. maybe 14ftx8ft? (what is the average size are single door garage is?)

What the cheapest garage or larage shed option out there ?
Do concerete base add the cost more than buying a shed or garage? how much i expect to pay for a base?

Probably another few hundred for the concrete base.

I'm sure there are cheaper ways, though.

I'm renovating a bungalow at the moment and it is on a large plot so we are adding a garage. I'd have loved to have built a brick or block one but I just don't have the time so have decided to go with a concrete pre-fab one.

I've ordered a Hanson Royale which actually donesnt look too bad. It has PVC facias and brick fronts and lots of nice options like steel personel door, upVC windows, georgian door etc.

The size I have gone for is 24' x 14' with a 10' wide door. The cost delivered and installed is £4300 inc VAT

I've so far found them to excellent and would recommend them.

I've still got to do the base which I'm doing myself and am going to run water and power to it before hand. I'm doing the base myself but I think for a garage of this size a base would cost in the region of £1,500. That's for 4" reinforced concrete (6" at sides) with DPM over 6" compacted type 1.

My advice would be to go as big as you can (whilst keeping it in proportion to your house/plot). Not many people say I wish I'd built a smaller garage.

Think about things like power, plenty of sockets and lights, water/drains - a tap or sink would be useful.

Do you want something that you can just park a car in or do you want something that you can park a car in and walk around it/work in it? storage?.

I worked on the size of a Range Rover, added a metre on both sides and the front and back and that was my size.

Nothing worse than putting your car in the garage and having to exit via the sunroof.

A basic 14' x 8'6 can be had for £1261 delivered and erected (plus base)

If you are even remotely handy you can do the base yourself.

If your ground is good simply build some shuttering out of 4" or 5" x 2" timber, make sure it is level and square, lay a damp proof membrane and order the readymix. Readymix should cost you about £80 a cube. A few barrows and a few mates (you to provide beer and burgers) and away you go.

Would not be big enough for your car, but B&Q are doing 6x6 sheds at £70 at the mo. In fact, due to a stock cock up, I now have enough bits to make an 15x6 for under £100 and have some bits left over too, and that is cheap cheap.

Slightly odd long and thin shape but for what I need it for it will be perfect.
