"Mr Mullen said: "I certainly have nothing against homosexuals. Many of my dear friends have been and are of that persuasion. "

Does that mean when he says 'have been' does that mean they have died of aids or they just changed their mind and are now straight

What a to$$er!
Why do people still listen to the church?!

On a similar note, why does the church still have a say in politics?

Go around saying how great it is, worship a single ultimate Gay being, and tell any brain washed followers any another form of life is wrong, wrong, wrong? Oh wait..... scratchchin

I can kinda see what he's saying though, albeit he was a bit more concise than most would have been.

What is the point of making a big fuss of "gay pride" and all that kind of stuff, we don't go round preaching "straight pride" or making a fuss of being straight. There's simply no need to plaster it around like that.

If you're gay, great for you - whatever makes you happy, but shouting out "Gay and Proud" just makes you look like a retard. Who gives a toss if you are or not, not the majority of the populous I'd bet!.

It's a bit tricky I'm afraid. There is no shame in being straight. There shouldnt be any shame in being gay either, but there is. My mum freaked out when I told her and my friends were distant to varying degrees for a short while.

You cant come out at school or you will be the butt of every joke and will probably get bullied. When you go to college or work for the first time, you're keen to fit in so dont mention it right away.

Thing is, the longer you leave it the harder it becomes to tell people. If you leave it too long you end up looking like a liar.

When you do come out properly, it's such a relief, its like a massive release of tension. (it was for me anyway). You end up wanting to tell everyone!

So, dont begrudge the parades. They help draw people out of the closet of shame! smile

I for one don't get the Queeny gay guys. I certainly don't fall into that...er....camp. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
But the whole idea of the modern day Pride is basically a money spinner, and somewhat of a party and drinking. I'm yet to go to a "proper" Pride in Manchester or London. OK, it's purpose is a celebration of being Gay, but it's roots come from the fact that for many years homosexuality was outlawed, and so the gay world was an underground one - very enclosed and secretive.
OK it's a celebration that is "in yer face", but Pride is also a chance for gay people who still feel their lives are enclosed and secretive because of their sexuality. There's still discrimination in the modern world, and Pride is a safe, secure place where people can be themselves.
It's also a place for various people can come to learn to dispell any misconceptions they have about homosexuality, and learn more about it. Also there are the curious people out there who wish to learn more about themselves, and coming to such an open event is the only they can comfortable so this.

There would certainly be nothing wrong with a heterosexual pride-type event. The only reason there isn't (I suspect) is because that heterosexuality has long been perceived as "the norm", and is the primary sexuality in the modern world. You have to "admit" to being gay or bi, which is wrong.
If it was as normal to be gay and bi, as it was to be straight, then there would be no need for a Gay Pride.

Definitely, I do get where you're coming from, as for a release of tension - I thought that's what hammering the arse of your nearest and dearest was meant to achieve!!

I have to admit, I've never understood this desire to tell people, the whole 'out' thing - maybe it's because I'm not gay, and don't suffer any sort of social stigma (of which there shouldn't be, but I know happens - generally it's schoolkids and simpletons who foster that kind of dislike however)

As far as I care, where a mate/colleague/friend of friend chooses to empty their nuts isn't my concern, if someone told me "look, I have to tell you - I'm gay" I'd be a bit unsure of as to why they were going to that hassle!

I can see the pride marches are a pro-active idea, but this flowery pink girly gay type crap is setting the acceptance of homosexuality in modern society back decades imo. There's plenty of ordinary gay blokes, and there's also those who act on it, and imo the pride marches serve as an outlet for the flowery gays to do that "I'm queer and I'm here" thing mostly, rather than a "look, it's ok to be gay cos there's dozens of us" type of 'release'

(and before anyone else pops up, I know there's quite a lot of double entendres in this, but it's difficult not to!)

It's all good though, I just don't get on with gays (of both sexes) who insist on (metaphorically speaking) ramming their gayness down your throat!!

Edited to change the thumbs icon to something a bit more positive!

I'm afraid I do begrudge the parades because I think they do your cause far more harm than good. If homosexuals want to be accepted without social stigma or prejudice as normal members of society, the best way to achieve this is not to gather in large groups, dress up as hideously exaggerated queens or wear leather chaps with your arse hanging out and parade down the High Street. If you want to convert the average joe in the street to treating you as his equal, gay parades do about as much good as dancing naked round a primary school playground with a stiffy does.

The trouble is that, because the way the world is, gay people have to "come out", because everyone will simply assume they are straight - it's (unfortunately for gay people) the default sexuality.
If you don't conform to this default, you're living a lie, and so have to "out" yourself.
As I said, I'm not a the stereotypical gay guy - that stereotype being the type you mention - the queeny types. Yes you have "camp" gay guys and "butch" lesbians, but you get "tom-boy" women and the "meterosexual man", who supposedly has charactistics of a stereotypical gay guy, but likes a bit of lady in the bedroom.
Because "camp" is associated with gay guys, they're the ones who will inevitably get the attention at such Gay Pride events. But for every camp guy, there are plenty of non-camp guys at these events.
