I then realised my obvious mistake (greed / putting Intrerest rate risk before Credit risk / laziness etc etc), I really should have known better as I work for a bank.

It almost makes me glad to have no savings at present, not an ideal situation normally, but at present it is 1 less thing of many to worry about!!

Read the other threads on Icesave.... 16k is protected under Icelandic law, hopefully the rest will be covered under the FSCS (which you are going to pay for by the way) and there is some concern that Icesave may actually be covered under the 35k guarantee, not 50k.

Hey Im starting a Bank... Bank of Budweiser. Anyways, you give us your money and then, we'll umm, well you can have it back if we stay sober.

What an absolute Jackass. "I deposited 50 grand and after I did that I found out they were going down the toilet"

apart from the fact that it isn't necessarily..

the point is though that you don't just phone someone up and they say "oh okay then here's your money back and all the interest you would have earned..."

you have to wait patiently in line whilst they give you back your last balance...

What a thoroughly depressing forum to be a member of. What is that? Some kind of group therapy?

4% why do anything else with your house money... it's (about!) inflation neutral...

i have an isa with a proper bank but i wouldn't let them have my proper money at the moment.
