The OH wants to spend a couple of nights in Chester. Can anyone recommend a hotel that's conveniently located for restaurants and bars but that's quiet? She specifically wants somewhere where there won't be the noise of traffic going past outside, so either somewhere down a quiet back street or somewhere with amazing soundproofing. Personally I don't care but if she starts moaning it will be more than my life's worth. Oh, and please noone mention the Grosvenor. The wine list alone is a good enough reason for me to stay there, but being on 'Northern wages' I can only dream of being able to afford it!

Pretty much all hotels in the city will be noisy. Hoole Hall springs to mind as being in a fairly quiet location as its on the outskirts of the city. There are plenty of cheap hotels along Hoole road but its noisy and they seem to cater mainly for the coached in tourist market.

Plenty of them down Hoole Road, which is the main road into Chester from the M53.

A lot of them set back from the road so shouldn't be too noisy .

I used to live on Hoole Road. It was bloody noisy well into the early morning.
