There is a common line of reasoning which goes:

A bad thing (X) happened involving person Y.
If we remove Y from the situation, X could not have happened.
Therefore, Y is to blame for X.

The reasoning usually excludes any concept of foreseeability, responsibility, duty etc.

Is there a fancy name for this sort of logic failure?

Example...

Woman wears short skirt, gets raped.

Faulty logic says: if she had worn trousers or stayed at home she would not have been raped, therefore it's her fault.

Plenty of High Court judges would agree with that smile

What he said - a major failing of uneducated masses and the basis for most religions.

It's not logical, in that it implies causality in the wrong direction.

QED it's a woman's logic as previously posted.

It's called Islam.

For example. I lived in Kuwait for a while. One day I was stationary in traffic and was hit from behind. 'Res ipsa' as m'learned friends might say. Nnnnnnno. Not there. As the policeman explained to me "You were not born here. Allah did not mean for you to be here. If you had not come here this would not have happened. Oh, and by the way. The other driver is a major in the secret police".

See? My fault.
