GLD is the ETF - simplest and easiest way by far. Buy it in your SIPP, ISA or just set up a share trading account.

Haven't decided, but I'll certainly be posting the time and place on a public forum when I do.

It depends on the price of gold... But roughly £13.5k for a 1KG bar.

Buy it?! pffft, all you need is 3 mini's, a bus, a loud cockney accent and some explosive.

Just to point out.....a 1kg bar isn't much bigger than a pack of cards.

Could we not buy 1kg units of something more interesting than Gold?

Something White and powdery would go down well.

Yeah but gold doesn't tend to get you put away for 12 years wink

Is there any difference in price between buying gold (are they called certificates?) bit's of paper that say you own x amount of gold in someones vault, and an actual piece of gold?

Basically is it cheaper to hold the bit of paper rather than the piece of gold?

Why is it that gold is the precious metal of choice? I know it is the most expensive, but why isn't silver for example more popular? Looking ETF silver shows quite a drop from the peak seen in March when gold was also at its peak.
