Trying to save an ailing business...

What would make you stop on the street and think 'I might go have a look in that shop'? Not that worried about what would make you spend money - just what would make you walk in when you might normally carry on past?

Would you need to see a massive discount on offer, or would something in the window take your fancy? Any ideas gratefully received smile

What do you sell? If we knew that, we might be able to tell you what would get us through the door

A well presented premises with plenty of parking (may not be possible) and if you mean a forecourt then low petrol prices. Other than that lots of offers, well and clearly advertised.

I'm not an impulse buyer so, as said above, it would simply have to sell what I wanted and when.

As far as impulse buyers are concerned then I guess it would have be price driven - come bag a bargain.

What does it sell?

yes

Personally, discount offers and sales nearly always put me off particularly with clothes shops which I avoid at the best of times.

Different things for different shops. Post what shop it is and we might be able to help. My shop for example doesn't really need to advertise people come in because they are thirsty. We put posters for live music int he windows and any special cheep booze offers.

I dont have to pay to park. I can get in and out with what I want in as short a time as possible. Stuff I want at the price I can afford to pay.

Lets put it this way my bast shopping experiance is the local Tesco Express.

Walk in
Grab lunch stuff
Scan it myself in 2 secs flat
Insert cash
Leave

Bliss unless some thicko cant work the self checkout infront of me.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Shop sells specialist outdoor clothing and equipment but also has a high % of fashion related sales.

Then your best items in the shop window. People want to be walking past and thinking im going to look good in that jumper, coat etc... and walk in to find out they can't afford it because of the credit crunch, walk a little further getting depressed and spend their last tenner in the pub drowning their sorrows smile

Discounts aren't a must, but they always help.
I tend to saunter past most places, but can be persauded with a decent display - as long as it's got plenty of stuff that most places don't.

I'm thinking 'northface' gear, camping gear etc? like 'blacks ltd'

In which case trying to target a younger market might help mannequins with most popular outdoor clothing items. Have a look at what 'festival' goers we're wearing this summer? Just an idea. With creditcrunch looming people are going to be staying in england due to lack of funds for holidays therefore people are going to be spending theoretically more money on warmer clothes...maybe hone in on that.
