...be far from the madding crowd, in deepest, darkest Wales, in the sort of place that people who live in the middle of nowhere go to get away from it all, with nary a bauble, string of tinsel, cracker or yule log to be seen.

M'lady and I are eschewing the "traditional" Xmas (which we both hate with a vengeance) in favour of one as far away from the relatives as possible and as far from commercialism as can be achieved. It's all log fires, hot-tubs, star-strewn skies and home-made curry on Xmas Day (NB: not turkey).

Anyone else planning an anti-Xmas?

Nice one.
I enjoyed Curry for Xmas dinner throughout my teens after I rebelled and Mum refused to cook for me

Nope - plan to decorate the house with as much Chav-tat as I can get my grubby mits on - including lights, novelty musical ornaments and maybe some lit animated figures for the roof. wink

I love Christmas.

I'll be at home, stuffing Turkey down my throat and playing toys with the kids and loving it up with my wife. thumbup

We have one most years.
It is very satisfying avoiding companies that try and thrust the "Christmas" message down our throats.

We shall drink too much & eat too much, and generally have a good time!
Much like most times we get together.
Xmas is overrated though!

I spent last xmas away with fiance in the alps house sitting for a friend. No junk TV, just lots of music, nice food (no turkey - yay), wine and snow.

The snow tasted a bit cold, but the rest was excellent.

We've done this several times at Christmas and New Year. Most satisfying to be away from all the commercial rubbish and fights to get the last turkey at Tesco/M&S/Waitrose/Aldi.

The best New Year's eve I can remember was on a beach in Thailand in 1999. No Big Ben, no bagpipes, no drunken idiots making life hell for everyone, in fact we didn't really know exactly when the year 2000 began as we didn't bother to put our watches on.

Mind you, we had Christmas lunch at a hotel on the beach and although some of our friends insisted on green curry for Christmas lunch, I had turkey & all the trimmings.
