Seems reasonable.

If the employees cannot accept it then I guess they'll have to move to one of the myriad other banks that is independent. If they're not recruiting then the individual will have to accept that market forces have changed his/her (lets face it, his!) earning capacity.

The government don't want the banks they have an equity interest in, employing the best people in their fields.

I wonder what a unacceptably "huge" bonus is to a banker £25M ? £50M ?

Unless we regulate and specify clear limits the banks with taxpayers money will be handing it over to bankers in unbelievable sums within a year or two.

To put this in context a friend of mine went to be a trader straight after university and by all accounts was very succesful very quickly, having left univ at the same time as him by the end of my pupillage I went to his "I'm a millionaire party" with his framed £1m bonus cheque on the toilet wall.

All madness

But surely, you only give big bonuses if the company is doing well.

In this case, me, and the rest of the tax paying public, are having to bail these companies out.

Damn right capped bonuses

So all the best people will gradually move to the companies that don't have this restriction leaving the banks that the taxpayers are supporting with the lower grade people who couldn't get a job elsewhere. Typical of dumb politicians.

They will just get it wrote into their contracts to get the bonuses when moving around, standard practice that some of my friends do when getting permie jobs and some contractors are cheeky enough to do that too.

So what's going to happen? Just as with the public sector the talent will leave to go elsewhere and the banks will be run by talentless fools who can't get a job anywhere else.

Great move.

I would have put it in the bank. But it was probably safer on the loo wall.

And just how much does cock features earn?

How many houses does his socialist pre-decessor have? Last count was 5 I think the last one costing £4.5m

Not to mention that these "huge bonuses" are shares, with a lock in period....not cash so most £1m bonuses are worth about £50k by now if that.

Utter wkers. Utter moronoic socialist tts.

Yes, point the finger at bankers and their bonuses, they're the ones to blame rolleyes

I'd be happy to see some kind of punitive measures against CEOs who walk away from their mess with huge payoffs, like that Applegarth c**t.

If you want to keep your high achievers then you reward them , its how much money these people make for the business that counts not how good their bonuses are

Its like commission for salespeople , its an incentive , those people that excel have the ability to earn big money people should not be rewarded for mediocrity

But are these people likely to get big bonuses by working outside the bailed-out banks? I can't imagine these indies are in a position where they are making huge sums to pay massive bonuses anyway.

Out of interest 996, how would you have played it? Not a swipe here, but we rarely see anything positive out of you at the moment. Or am I only reading the wrong threads?

Who is to say those on the large bonuses were the ones that screwed up, granted there will have been a few instances, but I'd suggest they were a minority?

Banks have different divisions operating in different fields. Is it in the interest of "nationalised" Banks to drive the best traders/dealmakers away because a bunch of idiots in a different division screwed up big time in the past?

High achievers ? Have you been living in a news blackout for the last few weeks ? These dumbfkends have taken on as much toxic debt as they could stuff their pants with.

How much do reckon these "high achievers" have earnt for their banks this month ?

Go on, how much ?

Say a top bod in a bank gets paid £2 mill salary. Are they any better than someone who gets paid £1 mill?

Both are fantastic sums to earn. But is there a skills difference between the two. They both will be top of their field, both learned, sensible, etc. So why pay massive salaries/bonuses?

To link the bonus to a sales figure in banking is nuts. I can not see how anyone employed in a business can be worth more than say £1 mill no matter how good they are at the job. Its their job to make money for the business and who would turn down a bonus or salary of £1 mill is this not enough?

as opposed to the very clever cocks that got greedy and caused this mess with stupid lending policies.
Don't get me wrong I know you can't stifle success or you have no success
these people need to see the rewards or they won't put in the effort, but so we have heard of so many top people recieving bonuses in the last few years, even when companies are not doing well, some even when companies are losing a fortune.
and why should they recieve a bonus when the only reason they have a job is because the public/tax payer has had to bail them out?
It wil cost me, you and everybody else heavily over the next few years and I really do not wan't to know that they are taking it for themselves
