Well, I am off to HK for a few days for the first time next week/weekend with work and wondered what I should know before I go.
I have a couple of colleagues out there already, but all have been there for less than a month, so knowledge is relatively patchy.

I'm really just looking for ideas for night-life (clubs, bars, restaurants), as well as "must-do's" for the short while that I am out there (places to visit, experiences etc.).

Any input gratefully appreciated.

great place, i enjoyed the happy valley race course and found that eating cheap market food was much better than going to the pricey westernised restaurants.

One of the few places I can imagine living other than England.

Go to Lan Kwai Fong (Central)

Find the Vodka bar. Don a furry commie hat and coat and go into the freezer bar!

TBH, Lan Kwai Fong will be a good night out initially. Fully of bars, and lots of Brits and Europeans to help you get to grips with things. Prepare to be shocked by cost of alcohol, it ain't cheap.

Edited for my crap memory.

Green Budha a must, light show from Kowloon side is brilliant and a must see. Shopping in Kowloon is great, chose a tailor carefully
( you will get swamped by them as you walk down the road) and you can get some brilliant prices and top quality clothing, many of them try to keep a long term relationshoip going which is great. As for food as with above post market food is top notch and a lot cheaper than the tourist traps. And a lesson I learnt make sure that you have tissue available for thos bathroom stops as it seems to be a no paper supplied moto frown

Victoria peak and The Star ferry are 2 thigns recommended to do to get a good view of HK - thing is its not 'all that' to be hoenst, also they dont take very long to do

Worht doing the Big Buddha also and Ocean Park - which is liek a semi ok theme park.

Can;t advise on night life but prices for most things are the same if not more than here (i.e food etc)

it was quite humid when i went this May

most peopel speak english.

I miss Hong Kong.

If you're there at the right time, go to the Peak at sunset for the most photogenic views. There's a path that takes you off to the West, around the real peak, which gives different views over the harbour and can be a pleasant walk (takes a while though). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lugard_Road

Hong Kong has districts for everything, so if you want to buy cheap goods, find the relevant district and you can browse all the shops for a bargain. Mong Kok sells computer stuff, but there are districts for everything from radio controlled cars to trainers, from silk to pet budgies. Beware that for many goods, the bargains are often last season's, or even last year's stock - factor that in when you're buying stuff.

You're not there for long enough to explore that far, but there is a lot more to Hong Kong than the city life - everything from jungle countryside to lovely beaches. Usually there will be a boat ride or restaurant at the end of even the most distant walks, so it's worth exploring. If your mates are out there for a while they might like to check out the national parks, which are a nice way to spend a chilled Sunday with a bit of a walk and then a big meal.
