Nice place to stay and eat in London Village?
Discussion
I know this has been done to death but SWMBO has refused to admit we need to save and instead wants to be taken to london for a couple of days shopping at the end of the month (though I'll still be back home before DD's
).
Can someone suggest somewhere decent to stay for a couple of nights near a few decent bars and restaurants.
I know google exists for this kind of thing but being so many options I would prefer some recomendations.
Hotel budget I would prefer £150-£200 per night but less would be nice (don't suggest Travelodge).
Also is it possible to park for a couple of days down there as I really don't fancy the train option.

Try Gordon Ramsay's new hotel/rest gaff near Regent Street. £180 a night and would probably please the missus.

I have not stayed here but my sister stayed at the Melia white house and said it was in a decent location to get around being just up Great Portland street. When I'm down now I'm in the Hilton at Canary wharf but I would not recommend you stay there as its miles away from the West End.

Why not take her to a show whilst your there, there are some good deals on the Theatre/hotel tickets.

As for parking. It may be better to park up on the outskirts and tube it in.

this place looks good :
http://thehoxton.co.uk/
and it's in Shoreditch / Hoxton which is THE place for bars & restaurants ( IMHO ) in London.

I've looked at that as it was recommended on here a few week ago was just unsure about the area. http://thehoxton.co.uk/

Brick Lane is close if you fancy a curry (but walk another 5 mins to Tayyabs would be a much better bet)

Just my opinion, but Shoreditch is generally a s
thole with a lot of trendy bars.
Stay in the West End near the parks and sights and get a cab to and from there if you must go out there.
TBH the times I have spent in London I have been underwhelmed by most of the West End, best curry house I had found was in Fulham between Stamford Bridge and Fulham Broadway but no idea what it was called.

It's true - there are a lot of trendy bars in Shoreditch, but there are also a lot of really good pubs ( the Bricklayers Arms or the Barley Mow spring to mind ) , a lot of good places to eat from cheap & cheerful to quite high end. Plenty of art gallery's & artisan shops. If you are around on Sunday morning there is the weekly flower market on Columbia road, which is worth visiting even if you are not looking to purchase cheap flowers & plants - it's an event in itself. Also it's near Brick Lane market on Sunday, Spitalfields market, Smithfields meat market is worth seeing ( weekdays only, and early! ) . There is an edgy buzz about the place that you won't get in the west-end.
charlotte street hotel maybe? never stayed there but looks nice from the outside, you are in a street full of restaurants (some of which are good; roka, fino, crazy bear, pied a terre) and roka & crazy bear both have good basement bars. you are 2 mins walk from oxford street and about 5 mins from regents street (nicer shops). not sure about parking there, you would have to ask them
