This is just unprecedented.

The Government have tried to step in and seemingly have failed, but saddled the UK with a load of debt anyway. We now have nowhere to go.

I very, very much hope that Darling, Brown and Blair never manage to fade into obscurity and that for years to come they are remembered as the people who screwed us. And didn't even have the courtesy to give a reach around.

What can he do? He needs to admit he is powerless to control the situation and just let event unfold.

Resign.

I Dunno, I'm not the chancellor. However how about the gov should suspend the markets. Put all interbank dealings through their books and guarantee every Interbank MM trade.

What a depressing state of affairs. Are we being run by complete amateurs? no don't answer that.

What about some of these incredibly well paid leaders in the financial world? Surely they must know what to do, why aren't we hearing more from them?

Andrew Mellon, Secretary of the US Treasury in the late 20s early '30s. Basically his view was that the market would sort itself out by weeding out the weak banks and organisations.

Buffet invested $5bn of his own cash a week or so ago....wnonder how much that is worth now. Thing is, no-one knows. I went to see Sir John Harvey Jones give a speech to a load of city types a few years ago, and he was talking about markets etc....he said that if you think you know what's going to happen, you're wrong. I've read hundreds of "experts" thoughts and predictions, and all of them have been wrong.
